I definitely agree with your observations here. I couldn't pinpoint exactly why I didn't like the latter half of Season 2, but I think you nailed it. I'm glad Season 3 is beginning so much better. And the ending scene in this episode was all kind of awesome. (I SO want a gif of them dancing into the beach mural, lol)
I kept replaying the ending scene and the scene where Lia tells Mitchell off over and over last night. So perfect!
Yeah, I just think the stuff with Mitchell last season got to be almost too much to come back from, and I'm really happy this season is taking an unflinching look at that (including making it clear that going into purgatory for Annie doesn't make up for what he did in the slightest - that was very important). It also makes me wonder how far they'll take it. Mostly because by the end of the episode it wasn't clear that Mitchell had changed much at all or even wants to now that he has Annie back and thinks she saved him as much as he saved her. But if it's an addiction he's struggling with, that's not what recovery looks like. So there's definitely still some dark times ahead.
I've always been crazy about George and Nina even though Annie's my favorite character, because they are amazing separately and together, and George made up for his early S2 bullshit and it was heartbreaking how they worked through what happened to Nina. I'm interested to see where the plot goes, but I never care as much about plot as I do characters anyway, no matter what I'm watching. I'M SURE IT'LL BE GREAT, WHATEVER, JUST STAY MARRIED YOU TWO.
Plotwise, Annie's stuff just always gets freaking dropped. Or she gets episodic storylines here and there. The main season arcs last season weren't about her and that sucked. But see above re: never really caring as much about plot, lmao, I still love her the most. And my investment in Mitchell has lessened as he's started swaying more and more towards what I have never liked about lead male characters in paranormal romances, particularly when they're vampires, when Mitchell USED to be a refreshing change from all that. So we'll see how things go with him.
I feel your love/pain regarding Being Human. I'm currently watching the second season, and it's reassuring to know S3 has a good start. I've been looking at some lovely BH icons here.
DNW A WEREBABY PLOT. I hadn't even thought about it but you're probably right. LOL oh dear. But still I love everything George/Nina choose to be.
More and more I don't think Mitchell will ever truly improve, that the writers are doing this on purpose, and that it's not leading anywhere good. On the one hand I kind of respect this decision to REALLY deal with what it means to be a vampire in the way few things in the genre do, and on the other I see some heartbreak on the horizon.
Can they just have luaus all day? THAT WOULD BE AWESOME.
I share your fear when it comes to Mitchell. IDK...As long as he continues to be sweet to Annie & doesn't mass murder anyone, I think I'll be okay even if they explore the darker aspects of his nature.
Nine and George are my FAVOURITE thing ever right now. I LOVE THEM AND THEIR NERDY AWKWARD AWESOME SEXYNESS. <3
But also yes - everything you have to say on the subject. But I'm so used to how epically Merlin fails to deal with its own moral grey areas that I'm pleased we at least got SOMETHING about the fact that Mitchell murdered a bunch of people basically cause he was having a bad day.
I love that BH isn't shying away from the consequences of Mitchell's actions even though he's a main character 'hero' type. It's just not something you see every day! I mean I can't shake the feeling that it's going to lead somewhere terrible now they've taken such a dark turn with him, but I still totally love the way they're handling the direction they chose.
