my mom insists on just seven pictures- in front of the garden, with me, dad, lenny, oma, and her, with me in my cap and gown- before she looks into my eyes and says that's enough, that it's time to go. the early summer sun is setting on our california neighborhood. next door, the gibbs are sitting outside, watching a sprinkler ch-ch-ch by the curb. on the next block, a dog barks and the sound of a skateboard hitting the ground is met with boys' laughter
