Holy shit that sucks. I hate that sometimes it doesn't seem to matter how much you work, the gov't still wants to take more money... Though, could you afford to have them take a bit more out each pay so that you won't have to pay in again next year? And at least that way if you end up overpaying, you'll get a refund. That's a hard option though if you're already using every penny... *big hugs* :(

Also, I totally agree about the hating how so many people take advantage of the system. I don't work my ass off in a job I had to move out of the province for to pay for slack-asses to get paid to do NOTHING, or even worse to get paid extra from little jobs and STILL get paid to sit at home just so they can live in more luxury. I don't care if you don't like the work; if you're fucking capable, GET OFF YOUR FUCKING ASS. Those programs are there for the people who honestly CAN'T get work and it's people like that who make it harder for the deserving to actually benefit from the program.

related note: if you're on EI you're not allowed to leave the country.

if you leave the country while on EI, they will freeze all payments, and re-assess you, likely resulting in large paybacks to them.

i'm just sayin'.

I agree that the system is flawed and has a good many loop hole sand that life can suck, I certainly have my FML moments, but I think there's a lot of projection going on here. Getting mad at the people supposedly wrongfully benefitting is going to do nothing. there may be things you can do to prevent this in the future like opening an RRSP, consulting tax specialist to see if there's other things you could be climing or asking your employer why an appropriate amount of taxes wasn't taken out to begin with and if that can be fixed in the future, or does there need to be a slight raise to accomodate taxes so that you're able to simply keep the position. People may be wrongfully benefitting, but whats going on with others taxes (unless your married or a dependent) has no effect on your own taxes. You would've owed the money regardless and still have good reason to be pissed about it. Don't let your aggravation with other people take perspective away from trying to solve the problem. You do your time, you keep yuor nose clean, put in ( ... )

PS: you can leave the country while on EI, what usually happens is that you won't get paid for tht week and your EI term will get extending and that week will get tacked on to the end. you either report it and extend your EI term, or dont' report it and lose the extension

Sounds like your country's tax system kinda sucks :(

Good luck with it, though.
