I always wanted H/Hr...Ron wouldn't be enough for her intellectually (but neither would Harry for that matter). G/Hr felt too much like making a kid's crush a reality. But I think it's kind of crap for JKR to retcon it now...what's the point? Other than to get people talking HP again.
For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it
because really, wasn't that the problem with the final books generally? Marching to a conclusion that didn't entirely feel earned in so many respects, just because it was what she'd thought up when she wrote the first book?
As to the shipping bit, my extreme, sincere, and heartfelt sympathies to R/Hr shippers who feel like she's being mean to Ron and undermining something they loved, because that's not cool. But no sympathies extended to those who bullied other shippers on the basis of their ship being canon or not, and used JKR's words in interviews to do so. That's the sweet, sweet irony of the whole thing, to me.
Quite honestly, I think it's just a way to get people talking about the series again and it's not much more than that. The movies are over, the books are done and the publicity machine slows down. She's coming out with these 'revelations' and suddenly tumblr is full of HP and the news is full of it and the fans are revitalised because they have something to debate.

It's like, you want to use canon as a weapon to bludgeon other fans with? Fine. Hit yourself about the head with this.
Which I say as someone who has ABSOLUTELY given into that temptation myself. Not my proudest fandom moments.

I want to reach back in time and high-five my past self.
