Trust and Tacos

Lucy and I were laughing as we left the coffee shop.  I honestly felt stupid about it, like we were in some kind of latte commercial, and when I told her that we just laughed even harder, enough for folks to stare at us oddly...which set off more laughter.  Then Lucy abruptly stopped laughing ahead of me, as a homeless man thrust his cup out to her ( Read more... )

Makes me curious about the vision, whether it's what's going to happen, or whether she's imposing her will... Neat story!

Thank you, seriously, for commenting. I've been hating on myself for days now over the fact that the feelings, emotions, curiosity, tone, everything I wanted to evoke with this story was not at all what anyone seems to have read. The very last thought/feeling in my brain as I wrote this was "happy, feel good".

I have been feeling like I did such an absolute shit job of writing it, that I don't even know why I'm trying to write in a competition.

I'm really glad that at least one person had questions.

Not shit at all. And it's pretty neat to find that people are getting even more than you intended to put in. What I'm seeing from the comments is that everyone is tying their own life experiences to their reading of the story, and that means you reached them and made them think.

Thanks! I intend to write more about Anna, if the prompts allow. I've got a quite a few bits and pieces of her life now in my brain.

Yes. I carry small bags of dog food in my car for the homeless who have dog companions.

I had the same question as whipchick, wondering if the man did indeed buy food with the money. I understand both the narrator's and the friend's POV (I struggle between them, myself). Ultimately, the choice is for each individual to make, and to do what feels right to him or her.

Thanks!

I have many more bits and pieces of Anna's life in my brain, some of which may answer this question...some of which may just lead to more questions. I'm not sure yet where she will lead me.

Aside from tackling a much debated topic, you've raised some very intriguing questions about your character. I won't ask them because I hope to see more of her in the future. Very well done.

I keep having scenes pop into my brain about her. I'm like IS THIS WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE A WRITER, OMG, I'VE GOT TO CARRY A NOTEBOOK OR SOMETHING I'MMA FORGET THEM ALL BEFORE I WRITE THEM DOWN?!?
