YAY MAGGIE LOVE! I loved her so much in this. Also, I agree - I would've liked to have seen the Molly/Bellatrix scene more fleshed out but I'm glad it was included. ♥
I really did dig it. I also forgot to mention one of my FAVORITE little details. The lack of intro or backtracking. Assuming that we saw part 1 is going to keep this movie great for years to come. Popping part 1 out of the DVD player and popping part 2 in won't result in sitting through half an hour of "OMFG we KNOW...get on with it!!"
As we sat there as the movie started, it occurred to me that perhaps we should have re-watched part I before coming to see part II and was almost hoping for a bit of intro/backtracking but you are right it would have not been good use of time. I think the did a good job reminding of us of things through some of the flash backs and such. I didn't feel lost and everything quickly came back to me.
I gotta say though, the epilogue was my least favorite part because they did a poor job aging them. I was actually looking forward to that scene and they all just looked so utterly ridiculous like kids playing dress up, specially the girls and mostly Ginny. I think the casting of their kids was spot on though. Ron's son looked just like him.
I'll agree that the makeup wasn't great. Honestly 19 years on a 17 year old wouldn't give them harsh crow's feet...hell I look younger than what they were shooting for. I liked that scene so much though that I was predisposed to enjoy it. The eye contact with Draco speaks volumes. That's the past and it's forgiven but there will never be anything remotely approaching friendship.
Now that you mention it, the Snape/Lily thing was a indeed heavy handed to the point that I began to question if I remembered the books correctly and had somehow missed that maybe Snape was Harry's dad not just love-stroke puppy for Lily.
Yea in the movie it does almost beg a question of paternity. The book seemed to handle it so that what I read was that Lily and Snape had been intimate, not necessarily sexual but were very close. Close enough that the very happiest memory each one of them had was a shared moment.
I've been neglecting LJ but I'm glad I took the time to come read this. I agree with everything you've said here! Especially about the lovely Dame Maggie. I especially loved how she switched from commando to softie when she smiled and said "I've always wanted to use that spell." So adorable. I really can't wait to watch it again!
Thanks! That was a great scene as well...heck she owned scenes without words. She did an amazing job conveying what was in McGonagall's heart without the need for clumsy exposition.
I want a second go as well but I'm most excited about seeing it back to back with part 1. I'm also hoping that in the DVDs some of the scenes that were key plot points (like Tonks/Lupin/Fred deaths) could be more fully shown to give those characters their due as well.
