Memo to me: your chosen career path is DAMN expensive....

Jul 02, 2005 12:52

Yeah, so that's not news to me, but I'm still surprised by some of the prices of absolutely everything I need to have in my photo bag. Which reminds me that I still need to get a decent, honest-to-God photo bag instead of using semi-padded, photo-bag-wannabe book packs. The good thing about working in the sales floor: I got 93 bucks of commission ( Read more... )

lol. those things probably are laying around my house somewhere.

I don't know if I've already asked you, but where did you live in Panama and what school did you go to? I can't imagine that a Panamanian girl that goes to school in the U.S. is hurting for money. haha. bunch of rich bastards.

Hahaha, I know, Panamanian girls should not struggle for money! I went to small private school from grades 1-6 called Academia de Matematicas y Comercio. It was right behind El Dorado. And to El Fermin Naudeau up until my tercer año. Oh yeah, public school in third world countries ROCK. I seriously did not learn a damn thing the three years I was there (well except maybe how to escape an angry mob) I was trying to find some old pics of me in my uniform, but apparently I wasnt camera savvy back then and it didn't occur to take that many pics... I lived (my family still does) right off of Tumba Muerto, behind the big Casa de la Carne. Oh man, so many good memories...how about you?

I was like half zonian. haha. My Dad was originally from California but moved to and lived in the Canal Zone for like 30 years. My mom is a China Panamena (lol) from Colon. Odd combo, right?
I was born in the hospital in Paitilla and lived in the zone (LaBoca/Balboa) until I was 14.
The whole time I was going to the American schools. (Balboa Elementary & Curundu Junior high)
Wow, Public School in Panama. "never in dee life!" lol. jk.
Fermin Naudeau. The name sounds extremely familiar. I think I met some rich dude in Panama by that name or something.

I need to get a camera bag of my *own* and give the one I'm using back to Marj. Hooray for money draining careers! Hooray for expensive equipment! Gah, and right now I'm so worried if I made the right decision to major in photography and art history. Two of my cousins are majoring in business, one in economics, and another in pharmacology(?). I can just feel my dad's disapproval radiating off him, and with all these little comments that I'll never make any money from my other lovely relatives, I feel like I should change my major to business or something guaranteed to bring in the Benjamins. GahGahGah!

No, Cricky! Don't cave under pressure. If photography and art history is what you want to do then do it! If not, you'll end up working somewhere that makes you absolutely miserable and what's the point of having money if you hate everything about every single day? They better deal with the fact that you're an artistic mutha and, by God, you will succeed at it.
