Physicists, take note.

This is just ridiculous, as far as I am concerned! If students are not taught how physics actually works, then any who decide to take it for A-level or at university are going to get a nasty shock! I'm very, very glad that I finished school when I did!

Physics 'dumbed down' in GCSEs

I think it's quite a good idea actually. It looks like this is a separate course to "general" or "applied" science, and pupils doing it are encouraged to do a real science too. It sounds a bit like the Scottish system, where you have physics, chemistry, biology and general science (the latter being very basic and only done by foundation pupils).

So I reckon this new "21st Century Science" will either be taken on it's own by pupils with no intention of continuing in science, or in conjunction with a real science as an additional and beneficial course by those who do intend to continue.

What I find more worrying is that less than quarter of schools in England teach the three sciences as separate subjects at GCSE. That is a bad thing.

No, this was Physics becoming more about debate and less about actual mathematics etc. It's not about a general science GCSE. It's replacing the more usual, scientific Physics ( ... )

Hi! I've added you on the recommendation of windzswept and because you sound cool. I hope that's okay :)

Lol! Well, 'because I sound cool'. *g* I'm very impressed. I don't think anyone's ever said that before! That in itself would make it all right.

Added to that, if windzswept recommended me, then you must be her friend as well, which is always a good thing.

So, yes, it's okay! Especially if you let me friend you back! :)

It'd be a little bit hypocritical if I didn't ;)
