I would like to say that I support the BBC's decision not to screen the DEC Gaza appeal. While I believe Israel's actions are unjustified and the Palestinian civilians need aid, the BBC cannot be seen to take sides in such an internationally significant and politically charged conflict. An official statement was released regarding the staff layoffs and situation at Livejournal. In terms of the continuation of the service, it all looks reasonable at the moment.

There are rumours afoot that all is not well in Livejournal, that a good number of employees have just been laid off with no severance package, and that the Russian owners may not keep the site going.
