spectacularly frivolous query . . .

. . . namely, about bath oil. Can anyone recommend really lovely bath oil? I'm prepared to spend a bit, as I have a bath every night and I'm a bit rubbish about other forms of female pampering (don't really use make-up; facials etc are a closed book; I own one nail varnish), but am struggling even to find ones to try. (And I do mean oil, rather ( Read more... )

I often cut a little bit off Lush massage bars and put them in the bath. They smell lovely, they don't spill (obviously), and they're really nice for my (very dry, ezcema prone) skin. They're also relatively inexpensive given how little you need at a time for a bath.

Hmm, this is a good idea, thank you, especially as I think there is a Lush in Cambridge somewhere isn't there? (in a shopping centre? the one with the public library? I can imagine the smell as I walk past but can't quite place it). Any particular scent recommendation? Glad that it's moisturising - my skin is not especially dry, but I'm swimming a lot at the moment and that does dry it out, so the moiturising effect is part of the point.

Yes, it's next door to the library in Lion Yard.

Personally, I really like their "Each Peach" massage bar - it's (despite the name) actually citrussy but I like it partly because it's a wake up/energising scent so it may not work so well for a bedtime bath.. They have one with lavendar (Therapy?) which might be better.

They also do bath melt things too (solid bath oil). Ceridwen's cauldron is very popular. I like Floating Island, although that one fizzes a bit too.
On a similar Alison-is-obsessed-with-Lush vein, their sister company B Never Too Busy to Be Beautiful has a few bath oils. I really like the Om scent which is sort of spiced lemongrass with some warm earthy tones in it somewhere, and the bath oil for that comes in pretty bottles :-)

Although to choose which pretty bottle, you have to go to the shop in London...
