Awwww... you little drummer you...

It was great seeing you again, although we didn't talk much (I was a little.. how do I say it... out of it! *lol*). But I am now glad that you are on my LJ.

thats really one of the main reasons i will never ever in my career work on a floor. i will stay in the ER until my dying day because we can do whatever the hell we need to do to take care of our patients immediately and correctly. that and i guess we're the hospital people get flown to, we are a major Level One Trauma Center, so we have more resources than many facilities. good work- you did what you could in our sometimes limiting profession.

good for you, sweetie! i'm glad that you got the balls to NOT accept what the first doc said and went to another resource to get done what was necessary for the pt. but i am not surprised because you are a smart girl and know what's up. always go with your instincts ;)

wow. that sounds really tricky. is Lasix a benzodiazapine? is ativan? ativan also has sedative properties, doesn't it? That's pretty cool that you came up with the same solution as the other doctor.

How did you originally try and get his breathing under control? Trying to soothe him or something?

Cheers

Lasix is actually a diuretic used to rid the body of extra fluid. Ativan is an anti-anxiety but yes also has sedative properties.

Originally I sat beside this patient holding his hand and tried to calm the him down by breathing with him. It did work for a bit but obiviously not well enough. It is a scary thing when you can't breathe.
