Title: Family Ties

Characters (in this chapter): Estonia, Latvia, Russia.

Rating: 15

Warnings: Russia is such a goddamn creeper. Blood and knives.

Summary:Uh, I need to be banned from the kink meme or monsters like this happen? Essentially, Scotland leaves the UK, which gives Northern Ireland an excuse to up and out as well, which leaves England and Wales all alone. Oh yeah, and this somehow leads to World War Three.

Estonia took off his glasses and massaged the bridge of his nose. “Again, huh?” he murmured, feeling the stress and dread and helplessness build. Latvia, shaking more than he had in twenty years, nodded.

“A-again, three nights in a row can’t be c-coincidence.” The teenager nodded, or maybe just jerked a little. “A-a-always the s-same, I w-wake up outs-side in the s-s-snow.”

“And it’s not sleepwalking.” Eduard said almost hopefully. Raivis sniffed.

“I w-wish. It’s j-just like how he used t-to c-c-condition me b-back in the S-S-Soviet Union.” He wrung his hands worriedly. “Eduard, w-what can we do? He w-won’t leave us alone so e-easily.”

The older sibling frowned in thought, lacing his fingers together in his lap. There was a long silence, filled only with Latvia’s hiccupping. With a deep and weary sigh, he replaced his glasses and gave his younger brother a level look. “Russia, this is unfair.”

The switch was instant; Latvia stopped shaking, straightened, and smiled. His eyes were violet in the first place, but there were no longer any tears forming at the edges. “How is it unfair, Estonia?” it would never stop being strange, hearing Russia’s speech patterns and tone filtered through Latvia’s voice.

“You said he wouldn’t be harmed, and that he wouldn’t know, as long as I did what you said.” Eduard couldn’t keep the resentful hate out of his voice then. “You have your information blockade technology. I even put that picture on Wales’ computer at the start of all this for you. Give me back my brother.”

Latvia’s laugh wasn’t meant to sound that cruel. “I do not think you are in any position to command me, da?” he reached into Raivis’ pocket and pulled out a switchblade. Estonia was in his feet immediately, but the knife was already at Latvia’s throat. “Ah-ah! Not so quickly. Little Latvia always carries a knife on him, just as I taught him to do.” Estonia grit his teeth while Russia used Latvia’s face to smile away. “You say I am unfair. I do not think I am unfair. I have not hurt Latvia, or you, or dear Lithuania.”

“You said he wouldn’t know.” Eduard forced his tone to be civil. The knife glittered ominously.

“Hm, yes, that was my mistake. I have been distracted as of late, da? Your cousin Finland is quite troublesome.” He pouted forlornly, as though he expected some kind of forgiveness for this minor ‘slip up’.

“So now what, are you going to just invade Latvia proper rather than jacking his communications with technology you stole from me?”

“I did not steal, merely adapted something you were never going to use and made it better, da?” he smiled brightly, like he was waiting for praise for doing such a good job of creating what was essentially Nation mind control.

Estonia drew in a deep, supposedly calming breath. It didn’t work. “What do you want, Russia? What’s the point of all this?”

Russia-Latvia put a finger to his lips and winked, the knife still in place. “That is a secret, da.”

Estonia started forward angrily. “Damn it Russia, I at least deserve to know-” he abruptly cut himself short as a trickle of red ran into the collar of Raivis’ shirt, the knife just barely pressed to pale skin, drawing a thin crimson line.

“That is a secret, da?” Russia repeated, danger rolling off him in waves. “You have no right to know. You just do as I say, and Latvia will remain alive, da? Because poor little Latvia is so,” the knife pressed deeper, “so,” deeper, “so easy to crush.”

“Alright!” Estonia yelled, hands raised in surrender, or perhaps half paused to pulling that knife from his brother’s neck. “Alright. I’ll keep doing as you say. Just… don’t.”

Russia obligingly removed the blade from Latvia’s neck, but didn’t care for the blood soaking into the collar of the teen’s shirt. “Very good.” He smiled. Estonia slumped back into his chair with relief and exhaustion. “Now, I have something for you to do.” Eduard didn’t answer, just buried his face in his hands. “I am acquiring two new toys, but they won’t break properly for me, even with China helping.” He played with the knife in his hands. “I need better than your information blocks, and better than this information hijacking method that I am using now. I need them to move independently of me, but still obey me, without my concentration. Can you do that?”

A long pause later, and Estonia nodded.

“Good.” Russia smiled, stepping forward and patting Eduard on the head, Latvia’s childish form making the gesture even more of a caricature of kindness. “There there, Estonia. It will be over soon, if all goes well.”

Estonia’s head snapped up. “Over- what!?”

But Latvia was shaking again, still bleeding, arm still outstretched. “E-E-Eduard?” he stammered, looking even worse than before. “Eduard, I-I-I don’t- I can’t- Eduard.” He sobbed, collapsing into his brother’s arms. “H-he let me hear it, all of it, I w-want to kill him it’s so unf-fair, but I’m s-so scared, I d-don’t want to be-”

“Shh,” Estonia soothed, partially for his brother and partially for himself. “shh, you won’t be occupied again. He was just making a point. We’re going to be fine.”

Latvia drew in a hitching breath. “B-but what about Toris?”

Estonia shook his head. “No. He can’t know. He’ll do something stupid and then Russia will hurt him again. This is our burden.”

“W-we’ll protect him.” Raivis agreed, trying not to bleed all over Eduard’s nice shirt. “It’s a-all we can do.”

Notes:
- Weirdly enough, Estonia and Finland are more closely related than the Baltics. But for the sake of plot and the fact that in canon they have their own seperate groups, Tino and Eduard are cousins.
- Once again I shall state that I have no idea how this technology works. It's 2020, I figure they've come up with something by now.
- Estonia is the canonical tech-whiz for Hetalia. I am abusing this for fun and profit.
- Oh, Japan. That's next chapter. (What, you thought it would be this one? I'm evil, I lied.)
