Muse has hightailed for parts unknown, but I'm not just twiddling my thumbs. A few Eight years ago, I gifted my husband with
a quilt for our bed, designed to his taste (gah - one of these days I'll get a pic of the *completed* quilt). But we bought a bigger bed and now the birthday gift is too small. Clearly, that's an excuse to make a new quilt

The first blue quilt was deceptive - just big stacks of squares and triangles in white, then a similar box of star fabrics, and everything fit in a shoebox. But with the way I like to do the overall layout (spread out the blocks on the floor and then rearrange till it makes me happy), I'm going to have to do all the stars and decide on the layout before I add the grid. You see, there are more star fabrics than I need and I won't know which to do without till I see them laid out. *sigh* I just keep telling myself how much I'm gonna love the result.
Did I tell you we repainted the (Erie) bedroom a wonderful denim blue? The grid fabric is nice and denim-y too. *bounce*

However, hearing and seeing about your preparations for making the quilt makes me realize that there are reasons why I never took it up even though I love the finished products. I don't think quilting is a pursuit that would mesh with my natural abilities.
I enjoyed reading about your grandfather.

Interesting what you say about preparations - this is the fun part for me really. By the time I've sewn the blocks and attached all the rows into a quilt top, I am done (presuming it's something bed-sized) - I send the big things off to be professionally machine quilted or they would ever get finished, lol.

I have always admired quilt makers, as well as people who create through other types of sewing also, but quilts especially. So I admire YOU! :)
Your new creation is going to be wonderful. Please post pics in progress and when it's done. :)

I've always enjoyed sewing and making quilts is (for me) really just sewing blocks so it's great fun. But you do such incredible things with leather, and I have no clue at all how you do that beautiful stuff. Will post progress pics ... once my machine's fixed.
