A traffic ticket should have the amount of the fine written on it that you are supposed to pay. Should you decide not to pay that fine, then you can go to court on it, and that information is written on the ticket itself as well.

It is up to you to challenge it or not.

I've looked everywhere for an amount but came up with nothing...

All of the court information is there though. Better to challenge it than just sit lazily by and have two points to blemish my record. Unfortunately one of the tickets was received while I was in the busy city and I have to drive through it during rush hour.

Sorry, I really can't help; I have my license but I hardly ever drive. The ticket doesn't have the amount of the fine on it? That just seems stupid to me.

Yeah they said they would send more information in the mail in three weeks. What an idiotic system.

I thought you were gonna say they were like, GOOD tickets, like... tickets to see a concert or a movie or uh... yeah. Driving tickets gotta suck. But at least you've got a car, right? I got no idea how I'd afford somethin' like that. I mean, there's car payments, insurance, maintenance, and then stuff like tickets, it sucks! I know a thing or two about workin' on the things, but I dunno much of that legal mumbo jumbo. You'd think the cops'd have something better to do with their time than make sure you're turning the right way.

[[ooc: oh gosh, I could write a book about this kinda stuff... my mother works in a courthouse and people ask her this kinda thing all the time lol... too bad Naruto doesn't really know anything helpful.]]

I wish I had those kind of tickets! Never had the time to go to concerts, though. Always working to make money to pay for.... what... living expenses? What a life.

You never see cops pulling over the people who should be pulled over - the super speeders, the single riders in the carpool lane and the assholes that cut in front of every person they can to get ahead.

[[ooc: This actually happened to me in real life... lol... what should I do?!?!?!]]

Yeah, I know, right? Especially with that rent hike! Geeeeez!!! It's crazy!

Ah, totally! Unless you watch that COPS show though! Then you get to see cops doin' all kinds of cool stuff. I wonder if they just save it for when they're in front of a camera...

[[ooc:Well, it's true that about 70-80% of the time, the cops won't show up to court if you do contest it. Probably the best thing you can do is talk to the prosecutor when you go in. They won't charge you for that, it's your right to see them and they're there and available to help. If you haven't had tickets before, you could ask about I believe it's called 'plea in abeyance' or 'plea and abeyance.' Either way, what that does is if you can keep your record clean for a while, they hold on to the ticket and will just dismiss it after a set amount of time. Poke me on aim "Mika Saigo" if you want further help.]]

Try to get it dismissed before you pay it off. The number for the court house is probably in the phone book, so call and ask them.

They let you do that? What kinds of things do you need to say to them on the phone to get it dismissed?

"What are you wearing, baby? I'm naked. Dismiss my ticket, please?"

Getting it dismissed depends on the cop. Like my dad, he's the type that'll go into court just to be an S.O.B.

...well, he said it was because if he handed out a ticket, they really deserved to get it. But anyway, if the guy who gave it to you was older and didn't give you a chance to explain, he was probably trying to meet a quota and you should be able to get it overturn in court.

Just dress pretty, say 'Your honor' a lot and don't try to get out of the ticket. Just tell 'em you're sorry and it won't happen again.

Your dad's a cop? Huh.

Damn. They were both young, probably in their 20s or 30s. Neither of the assholes gave me a chance to explain. I tried explaining the speeding ticket, but he didn't even acknowledge what I said.

I'll try my best to swallow my pride and take your advice. Maybe I'll even put on makeup. It'll be worth it to save hundreds of dollars.
