This year, there were a few more occasions to celebrate as well. We got together from 12pm, and started preparing our meal, so that we could sit down at 2:30pm/3pm for the full works. A great time was had by ( Read more... )

I'm more than happy to go with anyone who wants to. All I'm saying is that I know how low the stocks dropped, and it was rather worrying. Christmas & New Year will see the usual upshot in demand. I just hope it's there.

Unlike many things, giving blood is something most of us can have control over, and make a definite change for the better. I know of several people who wouldn't be here without it.

It upsets me that many people won't give because of _____ [insert reason here]. Everyone's heard how important it is, and "I don't have the time" winds me up.

It's more of a case that I see giving blood as the act of a citizen. I was in and out in just over half an hour this time, and, in that time, I hopefully got to help someone.

So few people give, and the need is so great.

No 'edit', dagnamit!

The "sympathy" above relates to ppl's excuses for not wanting to give, not to lack of sympathy if anything bad were to happen to them or theirs.

Giving blood would be good, but I would appreciate it if someone who's done it before came with me as I'm a scaredy cat!

More power to you for giving blood, and I agree that 'I haven't got time' isn't a valid reason, I can't help but feel that your comments were a little unfair to those of us who would like to give blood but can't for whatever reason (bbi or other chronic infections, non-infectious blood disorders, a job where they really can't afford you to faint) . Both Dylan and I would like to give blood, but he's got sphereocytosis (a hereditary form of anaemia) and I'm just too damn small (you have to be 7st12, I'm 7st in my boots*). By that reasoning, should it come to it, do we not 'deserve' help?

(*yes, it has been frequently suggested I put on some weight then, Gods know I try, it's just not happening)

I'm sorry to hear about your Grandma, hugs. Hope the Xmas hols are ok. I'm off to stay with T's folks as mine have abandoned me to go to a tropical island. I wish I could give blood and have tried to do so but they always turn me away because I don't weigh enough. :(
