I think its all good ... though I havent found an explanation for prohibited degrees of relationship which is one of the things that prevent a same sex couple from entering a civil partnership ... tisnt explained in the Civil Partnership Act 2004
scrap that, finally found part 1 of schedule 1 - tis just about not getting together with siblings etc - nothing different from mariage restrictions ..
so, Yeah! At last!
Probably wont ever do it, but its nice to know that its finally there!
I have to confess I've got a lot of sympathy with Tatchell's point as expressed in his Guardian op-ed, which if I was more prepared I'd link to. Nutshell version is: we've a law for hetero marriage that excludes homosexual couples. Now we've got a second law for homosexual couples that excludes heterosexuals. Not sure it's the victory that everyone thinks it is. The reason for the CPA (as opposed to updating the existing marriage laws) is to keep sweet a bunch of bigoted morons. Don't think that's a constituency that I'm particularly interested in humouring; they can believe whatever the hell they like, but I'm not happy with it being enshrined in law.
