Ive been hearing about a bunch of people getting tattoos/wanting to get tattoos, and i cant help but think that Nazi's would tattoo jews because they knew that few things were more humiliating and degregading for a jew than to have to bear a tattoo.
and sixty years later...

I can't believe you just compaired those two things. I find that to be a little more than distasteful. Nazi's didn't tattoo the Jews because they knew that "few things were more humiliating for a Jew." They gave Jew's (and homosexuals, and twins, and midgets, and gypsies... need i go on?) numbers to replace their names and dehumanize them. They were tattooed on them so as to make it a permanent change, they were stripping them of any sense of self they had left so they would have no will to resist. There is a huge distinction between that and say... me memorializing my mother on my shoulder blade, or someone else making the choice to decorate their bodies in a way they feel expresses themselves.

well put. i'd continue ranting, but tina said it better than i could have. as someone who fully intends on getting a tasteful tattoo, there's a big difference.

also, i can't think of a better way to act in defiance of the nazi intent than to take back the art of tattooing and say "this isn't something that belongs to our oppressors anymore! this is MY personal decoration, and my sign of personal pride that i will adorn MYSELF with."
