[Most of Varric's memory has come back by now. There's a few things that still escape him, especially around the zombies and what he suspects did him in, but he's gotten to the point where he at least remembers some of his time at the Keep.
He's heading for the kitchen in the barracks when he spots someone unfamiliar. Normally he'd keep on going, maybe with a nod or something, but he does indeed recognize that coat. It's enough to give him pause, and he stops, raising an eyebrow at the guy.]
[Which means that he's now kind of wanting to see his own.]
I think I'll go and take a look at it.
[Riku's not intending on being rude when he turns and walks off toward his cell again. It's just that it doesn't occur to him that he -needs- to excuse himself from the conversation. He hadn't been that far from his room when he'd run into Varric, so it's only a couple of minutes before he's stepping into the cell he'd awoken in, glancing around until he spies the journal on the nightstand.
But when he picks it up and opens it, it doesn't make any sense at all.]
[That's all right. Varric'll be rude right back, and dog him to his room. There's no way this guy's getting away. Not when he's claiming to have been here for awhile, despite Varric having seen no sign of him, and to have known Riku from before here.
And not when Varric hasn't heard from Riku since waking up, or seen him on the journals since asking some Xanth kid for a favor, and yet this guy has his coat.
He doesn't go into the room, just stands outside, where Varric can see the guy out of the corner of his eye. And hear him, of course, and he can't keep quiet with what the guy says after looking at the journal.]
That's Riku's journal? You're sure this is the room you woke up in?
[Riku isn't expecting Varric's voice to break in. He glances up sharply, but relaxes when he realizes that Varric has just followed him back to his room. He takes another look around the room, just to make certain it is in fact the one he woke up in, then turns to face the other man.]
[Okay. That's - Varric actually has no clue what that is.
Well, all right, no, there's pretty much only one explanation for this. This guy is wearing Riku's clothes, woke up in Riku's room, has Riku's journal, and has only vague memories but does remember Riku from before here.
It's probably Riku. Riku who died and woke up not only with no memories, but looking completely different.]
...you don't happen to remember any shape shifting abilities, do you?
[Give him a minute. He's had his fill of weird shit happen in this place over the last day. But really, given that people come back from the dead here, he shouldn't be too surprised they can come back looking like different people.
Why not? Add some extra confusion in along with the memory loss.
He shakes his head. He'd really like some alcohol now, thanks.]
Andraste's bloody flaming knickers. Okay.
If you're Riku, something's happened to you. I've met you before, and you normally look completely different. That doesn't seem to be standard procedure along with the memory loss here, so it must be something else.
[It makes sense that he looks different. Varric would have recognized him otherwise, right? But Riku can't help but wonder if he's sure he's got the right guy.]
There aren't... two Rikus in this keep, are there?
[Because he does not remember Varric in the least. At least with most of the other things he's said, Riku's been able to get a feeling about, even if he didn't remember right away. But nothing about Varric seems familiar.]
[Riku turns to his journal again, flipping it open and beginning to browse. After a moment he finds Varric's entry--complete with a list of names that the entry is sealed to, and a wax seal. He can't be certain this is what Varric's talking about, though (after all, he's not entirely sure what these "locked entries" entail), so he flips the journal around, showing it to Varric.]
Are these the entries you're talking about?
[All signs point to them knowing each other before everything happened. So why can't he remember?]
[Varric leans over to look, sees his own entries, and gives a bit of a smile.]
Yeah, that'd be them.
[Well. Blondie turned into a spirit of vengeance, Birdie turned into a giant dragon, and now Silver apparently turned into another person. At this rate, Varric's going to have to chat up Feathers and make sure she doesn't have plans to not be a gryphon any time soon.]
Least this finally answers my question about that damn coat.
Nah, probably not. Or if it is, I have no idea. Most of us only have one set of clothes from home, though, so when I saw you with something I knew was Riku's and hadn't seen him around here in few days, well. Got suspicious.

Looking for someone?
Reply
Well. At least not about the coat, anyway.]
Well, he has one. So either they're more common than you thought, or he's in this organization, whatever it is.
You said you knew the name. What do you remember about it?
Reply
How long does it usually take for your memory to fully come back?
Reply
[He shrugs.]
Like I said, your journal's probably your best bet for info. If nothing else, all the entries are signed, so it'll tell you your name.

Riku.
I'm Riku.

Yes. This is where I woke up.

I just woke up a short while ago. I haven't remembered much of anything yet.

Not that I know of. Might've slipped my notice if you arrived during the zombies, but that's only been the past week or so.
Check your journal? If you've got access to my locked entries, you're him.

[Not concerned. Just suspicious.]
