Turning twenty was a big deal in Japan. It meant that a person was no longer treated as a child in criminal proceedings, they could vote, purchase tobacco and alcohol, get married, etc. Basically it was the moment when they became the productive member of society they were always mean to be. Karla cleered wildly, then finished her drink before climbing up on the stage. "Okay, okay, my turn," she said, flipping through the book.

She began singing the first one she knew. Hopefully her friends would like it!

[This is Elisabeth Harnois (Karla's PB)'s real voice! EEEEEE!]

Dinah had to get up on a bar stool and put both sets of fingers in her mouth, in order to whistle loud enough to be heard over the applause. "Wooooo! GO KARLA!"

Karla flushed and grinned. "That was good then?" she asked.

"It was awesome," Dinah fangirled, then hugged her. "I don't think I've heard you sing before, you should do it lots more!"

"Really?" More blushing. "I try to sing for Jono sometimes, but he says I'm not all that great at it."

Because she tried to sing growly guitar songs that her voice wasn't good for. Had she ever sung like that for him, it would have been a different story.

"Jono's wrong, hon. That was really, really good. Sing him that song, and phone me if he's still claiming you can't sing." Dinah grinned widely. "Or better yet, next time I visit, which, I should do that before I go back to school in a week or two."

"We can do karaoke at Caritas!" Karla agreed, perking right back up. "You know, I don't think I've ever sung there? Wait--no. Once. I sang at Drake's pre-wake."

Which was an odd concept if you didn't know the demon in question.

"We definitely have to do it again sometime."

Dinah remembered him from the couple courses she'd taken, and smiled a little sadly. "Definitely. I think the last time I sang there was after one of the plays I was in. So, you know, past time to be silly in public there again."

"Plus, you can always go home and walk away from the shame!" Karla teased. "I'm not so lucky! I see how your mind works, Lance!"

"AWWWWWWWW!" Momoko glomped Karla as soon as she could climb over the others to get to her. "That was totally awesome! Do another! Do another!"

"Another?" Karla laughed. "Isn't it supposed to be someone else's turn?"

"My party, my rules!" Momoko pouted at her, preparing to use wibbly sad eyes if necessary. "Pleeease?"

Fortunately, there was no need for Momoko to resort to such drastic measures. "All right, all right," Karla surrendered with a laugh. "I'll sing another. Then maybe we should make Jaime sing!"

Because she was a caring friend, that's why.

She bounced back up on the stage and started singing Ghost of a Rose.

"You totally need to teach me that one!" Momoko gasped as soon as Karla was done. Well, and she'd finished clapping.

"It's super easy!" Karla said, gesturing Momoko to come up to the stage with her. "C'mon, we'll sing it again!"
