2012 TV meme

This year I watched A LOT of TV, haha. I would have liked to comment a lot more on them while watching, but c'est la vie.

Which TV shows did you start watching in 2012?Arrow -- not by choice; I think it's a steaming pile of shit but my husband watches it ( Read more... )

Homeland is still entertaining and intense, in that I never get bored or feel like looking away from the TV screen. But...yeah, that's not enough to keep me watching. Right now I'm appalled and a little bit offended, and I can only hope they find a way to fix it in the finale. Pointless to say more without spoiling, I think.

D, and I mainlined the first season of Justified in Moscow and were scraping our jaws off the floor the whole time; we need to find time to get to season two, one of these days.

It makes me all warm and fuzzy that you loved HLoTs. I bought the Wire in a black Friday sale and am hoping I'll enjoy it, as well.

I hear Justified gets pretty magnificent in S2 so I'm looking forward to that.

I got bogged down with The Wire in S2 which I'd been warned about, and still couldn't manage to push through. I will try again after Christmas. As I told umbo in the DW version of this post, I find the intense character work which HLOTS does to be more enjoyable and entertaining than the big "story of a city" which The Wire does, even as I recognize intellectually that it's a major achievement.

Justified -- but only partway through S1 still, just not enough time

Season one of Justified takes off with the introduction of Raylan's father, played by the always great Raymond J. Barry. Season two has one of the best performances on TV in years from Margo Martindale. Season three was very good but suffered because Martindale's character in season two was so unforgettable.

Also curious about Leverage and Luther.

Luther would be ridiculous at best and really sort of poor if it wasn't for Idris Elba. You just can't keep your eyes off of him.

For new shows, I'll be planted on the couch for the new Kevin Bacon one, The Following.

The pilot, which I liked, was a brutal watch. Very violent, very gory.

I am looking forward to Margo Martindale -- I've heard only great things about her character.

I saw that one extended trailer for The Following and yeah, it looks grim. So much so that I wonder if it would be better on a cable channel so it could be freed up content-wise, rather than on FOX. I'm hoping it turns out to be a good, lasting project for Bacon -- I just really like him.

Re: BatB, I agree with you about all those good points, esp Tess, and yeah, the art scam was more than decent. I think I turned a corner with Vincent in, I think, ep 6 at the end when Cat basically told him straight-up that he was the best thing about her life right now -- I just felt that was a very grown-up, non-coy conversation (and normally I'm not into Jay Ryan's looks but he did look ALL RIGHT leaning against the windowsill, ahem...). And when JT started getting a bit more human and less Angry Frowning Nerd, that also helped with Vincent's scenes. But I still don't feel like I care about him as an individual character -- I feel like he's still being painted in very broad strokes. From that brief glimpse in the promo, it seems like we'll be meeting a woman from his past so hopefully getting a little more backstory on who he was before his service will help ( ... )

I suspect some of the show's more ludicrous elements are easier to take when you don't have a week to mull over whether any of it actually makes sense.

Yeah, I did marathon it initially -- I'm not sure that I spent all that much time thinking about it during the week between episodes, heh, but it was definitely easier to consume and digest the very short first season as one whole story.

he had the Secret Service haul her out of her apartment at 5:00 a.m.

Oh, yeah, I remember that scene clearly indeed. I was glad Olivia shut him down the way she did but I agree with you -- I'm not confident that in Shondaland it's all that clear that Fitz sucks. I mean, I don't watch any other Shondaland shows but from what I understand and have seen of Scandal, she's very good at the id-appeal and the soapy tropes. But then you get the occasional thing that just steps so far over the line (like the hunting scene and also at least one Mellie/Fitz scene I can recall where he was an absolute dick even above and beyond what her scheming deserved, ( ... )
