Fill #2: "Phases" [1a/??] anonymous February 25 2010, 20:25:30 UTC
Note: So first of all, I'm *not* 2nd Fill Offering anon. Instead, I am kamikaze fill sneak-attack anon. Quite some time ago, I wrote another Russia/America mpreg (http://hetalia-kink.livejournal.com/10530.html?thread=16618274#t16618274). I bring this up because this current fill can but does not have to be considered a much fluffier sequel to that fic, as I will likely be bringing in an older version of that fic's Alaska character for a cameo or two in this one.

Phase 1: Launch

Over the many, many years he had been a part of this earth, Russia had gained something of a reputation. And, like any truly worthy reputation, it was thorough. It incorporated all of the senses: the scent of gunpowder and dried sunflower, hearing a faint kolkolkol in a dark, seemingly empty room, feeling as a lead pipe slams into the side of your head, tasting rust as your own blood coats your tongue, and finally opening your eyes again only to see a wide grin looming ( ... )

Although the project has been in development for some time, technological advancement has allowed for overwhelmingly reduced space travel and more productive terraforming practices. The color that had slowly been returning to Russia's face immediately drained away again, and he shook his head wildly. “Nyet, nyet! That isn't it at all! It's just... I'm...” His eyes met America's, perhaps hoping he could express what he was feeling without words. Please don't make me say it out loud.

America seemed to relax a bit. “You're acting like this is your first baby, or something.”

“It is!”

“Uh, I hate to break it to you, but it's not a coincidence that Alaska has your nose. And eyes. And height. And-”

“But I wasn't around him when he was a baby. He could walk and talk when... when the world started to thaw. He could let me know if he was hungry or scared or... or hurt.”

“I hadn't thought of that,” America murmured quietly, possibly to himself. After a moment of thought, he slapped Russia on the back and gave his lover a blazing, eager smile. “Well, don't worry! You might not have much experience with babies, but I've dealt with fifty of 'em.” He gave his still-flat midsection a gentle pat. “And by the time this kid's ( ... )

ASDFGHJKL;

You just broke my brain with adorable and win, anon. SO CUTE. Oh boy, I was giggling the entire time. :D

Suggestions...maybe dealing with the baby having a bout of colic? It's tough for even an experienced parent to deal with it. I can't imagine how much it would freak out Russia.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, OP!

And oho, it is funny that you mention colic. I definitely intend for that to be one of the topics. According to my mom, I was an unrelenting, take-no-prisoners colicky monster until I was around 3 months old. There was only one thing she could do to get me to settle down, and I intend to use it here. :)

Ahaha! I didn't mean to snipe your #2 spot. Maybe great minds think alike? That wouldn't necessarily explain me, though.

BUT TOTALLY POST YOURS! Obviously I am shameless in my Russia/America family adoration, so I love seeing other peoples' takes on it.

AHHHHHH! Such a wonderful beginning! I truly wish that I could give you suggestions on what to do but I am just cooing at the fic... I loved your last fic and just went back right now and reread it and am sighing happily, your writing rocks! As for suggestions maybe a bigger cast this time? The little snippets I just read about England, France and Spain in your last fic (even though it was barely a paragraph) were utterly hilarious. Or feel free to ignore and do whatever you want to do. I will be stalking this mercilessly! :)

Heh, I'm really glad that you enjoyed both this fic and LAWLS (... oh my god, is that seriously the acronym of my other fic? HOW DID I NOT NOTICE THIS SOONER?). :D

Your suggestion intrigues me, though. I was intending to have this be more one-on-one with Russia and America, but it might be difficult to keep all of those other ridiculous dorks at bay. I'll definitely keep the suggestion bouncing around the back of my head and see what comes up.

Lol that channel changing background noise was not only a funny way to make Ivan cringe but a very clever way to explain what's going to come.

FUN FACT: the TV noise was originally going to be totally unrelated stuff with only the news snippet being of any expository use, but as soon as I realized what I had typed for the cooking show bit my inner twelve year old LOLed forever and I couldn't let the joke go.

The moral of the story is listen to that pimply little voice in your head that goes, "LOLOLOL... cream."

Did you know that I have a thing for parental Alfred... the only things in this fandom I have more a thing for is parental Ivan and parental Gilbert (good dads turn me on so much). You have two of the three :] So anyways I am loving this fill thus far, Ivan's so cute with his freaking out over waiting for the test results. It was adorable and very much how he would handle that situation in my head cannon.

As far as things that Ivan needs to learn... Oh I an think of so many of them! My boyfriend just had his first nephw and was watching him for the weekend and called me sobbing for me to stay at his place for the weekend (I even taught his sister a thing or too so HA! wow that went off topic but she kinda hates me) anyways... diaper changing, I know it's cliche but when it comes to baby boys this can be a bit of a challenge and for newbies the baby will often fuss about having their diapers off because its cold... and they suck aren't good yet... but so a seasoned pro they can get that thing off and changed into a fresh one in no ( ... )

Russia had only noticed it hours before. Sleep had been particularly elusive. His mind was too busy rapid-cycling through the baby tips America had been steadily giving him over the past few weeks, repeating them constantly in an effort to memorize them. So far, barring the first lesson (which had involved America's emphatic rebuttal of Russia's fear that sex would hurt the baby), nearly all of the coaching had been on the topic of how to properly hold a newborn.

Babies' necks are very weak and vulnerable, so support their heads. Hold their bodies close and securely, because they like nothing more than feeling warm, protected, and loved. Russia could easily empathize. Necks were excellent targets for both extreme cold and violence. Having experienced both more often than not, he and his scarf were nigh inseparable. And he remembered toddling across frozen wastelands, sometimes with his sisters but often completely alone, assailed by icy, indiscriminate winds. Tears and blood alike froze in those winds ( ... )
