[Part 11] USUK Dreams anonymous September 23 2010, 09:28:40 UTC

A nation singing 'You Are My Sunshine to another nation.

England watched America's chest rise and fall as the man himself shifted in his sleep, causing the skin around his mouth to tighten momentarily before loosening again. America knew that England did this, he knew that when England woke up the middle of the night, he would force himself to stay awake just to watch America. What America didn't know was why.

"The other day dear, as I lay sleeping/ I dreamt I held you in my arms/ But when I awoke dear, I was mistaken/ So I hung my head and cried." England sang, so softly that it was literally a whisper in the quiet of the room, barely being heard over the faint noise of traffic far below. It was strange how it was an American song that managed to explain everything that England had felt over the years especially between the Revolutionary War and the Great Reapproachment ( ... )

Awww, yeah, I know it's a depressing song. Somehow, the first verse became a cute children's song and the other verses became fairly unknown, so I guess that's why so many people associate it with happy and cute...

I've actually been intending to finish my own fill to this prompt for a few months now (I've been so bad) with Lithuania and Poland. And I hope yours isn't off the mark of what OP wanted, because if so, then mine would be really off the mark XD It's historical and includes the entire song, and is rather depressing. I guess I want to say thank you for (unintentionally) kicking me in the pants to finish my fill!

Anyway, I'm not much of a USUK fan Not gonna lie. I only read this to make sure it wasn't too similar to what I'm writing. but it was nicely done. I liked how the Revolution turned out to just be America wanting equality rather than an escape. And the last few lines are so true: trying to force someone to stay with you just chases them away. Thank you for such a lovely fill!

The first time I heard it I thought it was a sweet song. Then I heard the rest of it and that thought died.

I'm horrible with filling things on time, I've got a long list actually. This fill has been on my to-do list for months and it's only now it got written.

A historical fill with Liet/Pol? Oooooooh interesting. I have noticed that when someone else fills the request you're working on that it helps you to continue even though yours is nothing like it.

Don't worry, I do understand that sometimes you just don't seek out the pairing. It's like PruHun or RusUkr, I don't mind them but it just doesn't interest me that much. On the other hand if I like the look of the prompt I will read it.

Thanks so much, I'm glad you liked it. It's very true and I can see England (or rather the British Empire) as trying to make a nation stay with him but then driving them away at the same time. To me this song is England and America so I'm glad I finally put it up. I can't wait to see yours.

Hey anon! Just in case you check back here, I finished my story! I put a thank you to this story in it, too.

Here it is: http://hetalia-kink.livejournal.com/17465.html?thread=56631353#t56631353

Coincidentally, this is exactly one month after you posted yours. ^__^ Thank you so much!

Thanks, it sounds weird but I'm glad it depressed you slightly. After all, it's meant to be a depressing song and fill. Thanks for commenting.
