Even if East and West Germany can be in the same room now and might even take a beer together now it's still complicated. And more complicated it's going to get.
“You can't throw people in jail for nothing,” West complains.
Prussia is getting tired of it. It can't be nothing, his Germany needs constant protection from hopeless elements of society. They're not sending people to... gulags so it's fine. Really.
“What am I supposed to do then?” Prussia says. “You want them? Fine!”
Then comes the realization that he can actually make West pay for it. Another part of communist economy he can't explain while looking someone in the eyes

Prussia puts even more energy into the Olympic games than usual. It's pretty awesome how they are all going to communist Yugoslavia this year and East Germany has a reputation to uphold. His training programs is the kind of thing he can discuss without being ashamed, even if people keep accusing him of cheating

“I feel like it's my birthday again,” America says and watches the communist nations fight with an expression of pure joy. “I wonder why I was ever worried about the commies getting together and taking over the world. Russia can't even get along with Serbia who always talks about how much he loves him

They barely get to know new boss Konstantin Chernenko before he drops dead too. The only thing he ever did to affect Prussia was to force him to boycott America's Olympics. Prussia was willing to hold a grudge for years over that but now he doesn't need to.
“Dammit,” Armenia says. “I should have bet on Chernenko too... He looked almost dead from the moment he got into office. But it felt so unlikely two Soviet bosses would die that quickly in a row! You and Russia were the only one who thought it would happen. I figured you would give Honecker a heart attack first.”
“Russia“He found out and wanted to join,” Armenia said. “Aren't you glad it turned out like that? I imagined a lot of other reactions he could have

That was only the beginning of the strangeness. When Russia calls for meetings it usually ends up disjointed and very threatening, leaving everyone with the feeling they shouldn't poke the crazy. Prussia expects this to be something like that too. Poland could need to hear it, he's balancing very closely to treason lately

Hi, I'm arivi, my laptop broke again but I have to comment this
OH GOD PRUSSIA IS SMELLING DEATH, ISN'T IT? He knows that if Soviet falls he's falling too, and then, well, no more GDR, and probably no more Prussia either. Poor him.
I don't really like Reagan, mostly because my American friends are huge liberals, but I can't really dislike America because he's so young and cute and well-meaning and yadayadayada. The fact that you made me actively dislike him is indicative of how good you are at writing the characters according to the time frame - and also how much I sympathize with poor, jealous Prussia.
I love how America knows Serbo-Croatian, but doesn't know (or doesn't care) that you're supposed to pretend it's two completely different languages. It's very America.
America totally learned Serbian/Croatian to make Yugoslavia stop talking behind his back. I think Yugoslavia in general constantly confuses him...
It feels like I've been writing this forever, so it feels weird now how I'm probably going to end sometime around chapter 50... And the end is pretty depressive to write.

Oh, poor Prussia. Like a good warrior, he has a sixth sense when it comes to the end, and he feels it approaching. Change is coming their way, and it doesn't bode well for him when even Russia laughs at him with America; and we're already at Gorbachev, man. I really like what you're doing with him and his interactions with Russia, btw. As much as the delicious AmeRus hints here and there ^^ and also the way they bond = ridiculous but adorable. Like a pair of little kids complaning about their strict fathersXD
Russia betting on what boss will bite it first was hilarious, also the fact that everybody is paranoid and scared shitless when he is forced to ask them what they're unhappy with, lol. I can understand Prussia's relief.
(and yeah, we got another hint of Cuba/Belarus! That pairings needs more love, man)

;A; This chapter! I can't believe you've gotten to Gorbachev already. The feeling of change (and also doom, from Prussia's side) is really kicking in, and knowing what's about to happen only makes it worse. Armenia is really cool, though.

Russia keeps getting heaps of complains now when the first suspicions of how it wasn't serious passed. Still only silence from Czech and Slovakia though. Even their own bosses complained to Russia about their nonchalant indifference toward everything. Russia told them them to solve their own problems and went back to sulking
