Oh, no! Mattie! :: petpetpet::
Nice job author!anon, I especially liked that scene where Al is trying to straighten his brother's fingers, and poor Mattie trying to get off the bed. It's things like this that drive home the point.
Now I am wondering how Al is going to get Matthew on that plane.

Sorry for the wait. I've got finals in a week, and I've been trying to keep from crashing before then. I've finally figured out what I'm doing with this, but I'd appreciate knowing what works and what doesn't, as I will be doing mass editing once I'm finished. Thanks to reviewers!
Canada whined mournfully, once again curled up in the darkness of his kennel. Five meals had passed since he had been returned here, but there was no way to tell how long it had been. Russia hadn't spoken to him or even come into the kennel since bringing him in, only reaching in to push the new bowls closer and take the old ones out, and Canada was beginning to think that nothing could be worse than the loneliness and the fear that Russia would leave him in here forever

“Please, Matt.” America is hurt. And Canada's heart aches because of it. He wants to comfort America, tell him that he isn't truly scared, tell him everything that has Canada wishing for the simplicity of a blanket by the fire and a master who doesn't make his brain hurt.
His mouth opens, and for a moment, he is terrified.
But the words come out as nothing more than breaths and barking, and though it causes America's eyes to darken, Canada is glad. For all that has changed around him, he is still the same.
His chest loosens and his breathing calms as Canada crawls forward and presses his forehead into America's shoulder. He is still the same and he will keep his master happy, just as he always has. He will keep America happy.
“Thank you,” America whispers, barely loud enough for Canada to hear. And then he is smiling, his hands on Canada's shoulders. “We've still got a plane to catch.”
Canada yips, a soft, happy noise. America is smiling, and Canada will do everything he can to keep it that way.

Yay an updaye! ^^ This has made my day. I really love the flashback parts and how it shows how Canada got the way he is. It's going to be interesting how he handles the flight.

God, I love this fill.
"Canada allowed himself to relax into Russia's warmth. He was done fighting." Those last two sentences are so powerful... great job showing Canada's transformation via flashbacks, author!anon.
I also love the interaction between the brothers here. I just feel bad for both of them.

I'm back! Finals are done, I'm almost done packing, and I've got a good idea where I'm going with this. Life is good. :)
“Sit,” Russia commanded, his voice stern but not angry. Canada complied, his bottom resting on his heels and his gloved palms brushing his knees where his knuckles rested on the floor. With a small smile, he looked to Russia for approval. The smile widened as Russia grinned and tossed him a treat

America smiles (Canada can feel the warmth) and pulls the door open just enough to get his foot in the crack. Then he kicks it open all the way, and they are out

Ok seriously, you handled it well and I'm glad you didn't rush this. I was worried Mattie would panic and escape into the streets, then Al would have to sedate him or knock him out, tie him up, whack him with a rolled-up newspaper and yeah I'm a bad anon
As always, I love what you're doing here. Please keep up the great work! ♥

Alright, flashbacks from now on are mostly going to be pieces of Canada's life as Russia's brainwashed housepet. With the occasional dream/memory sequence.
Russia led Canada up the stairs, the chain replaced with a leather leash. “Such a good dog. You will like having a real bath

Well, this has been done for ages, but I've been trying to figure out if this is an angle that works. Please tell me what you think.
ReviewerAnons! Thank you so much. I know my updates are short, and I'm sort of writing this as I go along, but I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who likes it. I'd respond to each of you personally, but I'm a bit shy about using up comment space. Just know I reread all your comments whenever I get Writer's Block, and I appreciate every last one of your words. Thanks!

I love your Russia x brainwashed!Canada flashbacks. Mattie being so trusting & affectionate as a dog has kinda become my guilty pleasure, so I am happy that you'll be writing more of it! ♥
I also love how America is all protective of his brother, even though it's partially guilt. Poor Mattie! I look forward to seeing how their relationship is rebuilt as his memories return, painful as they may be.
The current format of your updates, half-flashback and half-present, works perfectly btw.

Oh... wow. Author!anon, when I first saw this fill, I thought the idea wouldn't appeal to me, ever... 12 parts later, curiosity got the best of me. Needless to say, I couldn't be more wrong and I'm loving every bit of your writing. ♥ At this point I don't really care which route you'll take with the pairing. The emotional impact of your story is just... ♥ I want so bad for Canada to recover and be happy and not lonely...
I would love to read more of your fine, fine work, anon!
