It used to be simple things--the way he held a pen, how he refused to speak the language properly--but as the two of them grew, separated, came into their own, their arguments began to increase in complexity and heat.
On a world scale, perhaps it went without saying that related struggles would be large and troubling. But with China...
When it came to China, perhaps Japan was simply destined to view things from a skewed perspective.

They had had, not two hours previously, a particularly ferocious fight that had left the both of them red-faced and Japan, for one, unsatisfied. There had been no conclusion reached, nothing settled. If anything, what began as a customary exchange of pleasantries had quickly escalated into something that made Japan long for the days of settling things with a sword.

"Japan?" China started to ask. Japan just looked at him for a long moment, panting and angry. He tried again, tentatively, only to find himself struggling for breath and sanity as Japan's mouth crashed widly against his own.
And...this sounds less like funny fail!rape and more like Japan being a yandere, but...I'll try to finish it properly tomorrow.

While I know his humans did horrible shit during the war, I admit I can't picture Japan-the-character as being directly involved. I read too much Discworld - whenever I try to read something portraying Japan as a villain, I keep imagining him chanting the Red Army's revolutionary slogans, which are things like "Slightly Bad Things Please Happen To Our Enemies".
