Croatoan [continuation from Part III] anonymous April 17 2009, 01:10:57 UTC
Since there are fifteen posts left on Part III, and I don't want to collapse commenting any more than I have, I've decided to finish the fill for this over here. I hope that's all right with you, mods.

The original prompt and previous parts are here: http://hetalia-kink.livejournal.com/4567.html?thread=6574551#t6574551.

A-and so that this post isn't entirely a waste, I did a quick sketch of the concept art I had for Alfred as Caliban.

I basically had this feeling that if I didn't finish that day, I never would.

I do hope that the CLAMP references were obscure enough that you were still able to at least mostly follow. I refuse to use OCs in my fanfiction, so crossovers/shoutouts are usually how I handle things. And I try to make them make sense in the context of the story.

Thank you for reading and commenting, and I'm glad you enjoyed it~<3

so erm why did Sycorax want arthur dead?

Reply

Writernon anonymous April 27 2009, 21:30:17 UTC
One of the reasons is that Sycorax covets beautiful things and powerful magic, and she either tries to make them serve her or kills them. She tried to take Jorougumo's power, and failed; she also tried to bewitch Arthur. When she failed, she had Alfred try to kill him.

A lesser reason is that Sycorax was evil in the play, and basically imprisoned Ariel for no good reason because he couldn't carry out one of her orders. So she's not the most stable of villains.

I hope that's good enough for anon right now, and I'll try to clarify it more when I go back and edit it with my beta.

This anon would just like to tell you what an absolute JOY it was to read this. It was articulate without being stuffy, and the twists and turns it took were emotional and amazing. The bittersweet ending really pulled the whole thing together, too.

However, that's not what really endeared it to me. Anon was a loner Back In The Day, with not a whole lot besides the library's mythology section to keep anon company. Anon studied Norse, Greek, Japanese, Celtic; you name it, anon studied it.

Seeing those myths come to life alongside some of my favorite characters really did something for me. The evolving psychology, the interaction of the Gods, Nations and humans, the wonderful settings (anon FLAILED upon first seeing Nivian Lake), it all came together so wonderfully.

And now, on a less serious note, anon is buying MORE iron to place around the house, because anon is a bardic RDNA member, and the idea of evil Fey scare the hell out of anon. XD;
reCaptcha: decanted emotions. I thought it was appropriate.

I also have fond memories of reading mythology. I was mostly in middle school and junior high when I read them, but I was big on Greek mythology and King Arthur's legends. I'm starting to get back into it since I've come to college - I read a lot of myths and stuff, like the Tale of Lanval and the Faerie Queene.

I understand where you're coming from, and I wish you the best of luck with that iron fence. Thank you so much for reading this, and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Anon. Anon. Writeranon. I stayed up till 5am reading this all in one go, and I HAVE NO REGRETS.

I squeed when Watanuki turned up (I suspected him from the swirls on his clothes and his eyes, and was confirmed when you mentioned the archer), I mourned when the Spider Lady died, I was chilled by Alfred and the whole ambience, I understood little but was still fascinated by the Greek mythology, I felt something shatter inside for Heracles, I loved Kiku's resilience and how REAL Kiku and Arthur are, I loved the twists and turns, I freaking cried when Arthur said goodbye to his fairies, and I loved the line about Alfred's clearest blue eyes. ;_; My comment is not worthy to be posted below your fic.

I'm not exactly coherent after staying up the entire night, but thank you for the fic. I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn't stop reading. It's so rich and kaleidoscopic and it's awesome how all the different characters with their different storylines intersect and intertwine. ♥

(um, if you don't mind me saying this, I think there might have been a slight continuity error where Kiku uses up the last of his arrows to close up the gateway to Olympus, but has arrows to use again in Avalon. but I am obviously half-awake and may have actually misread. orz)

*laughs* I guess I'm a bit late to the party, but there's no harm in commenting, is there?

Anyway...WriterAnon. I wish, for this one time, that the kink meme wasn't Anon only. I...believe you're writing that other fic, too, where Alfie returns the favor and goes to save Artie from the Fey? Gosh, I wonder if you check back to see if people comment...

Aah, anyway again! This...this story is so...very well thought out. I must admit, I'm jealous; you have lots of talent for storytelling, and have you happened to write out Kiku's story? I'd really like to read it. Hell, I'll read anything you write; you've got an excellent style.

...Maybe it was inevitable that I started to get into xxHOLiC around the time I found your stories on the kink meme. ^^

I wish you the best, WriterAnon. May your words continue to weave a world of their own.

New!Anon wants to say that this fic has been epically epic! It is seriously the best fantasy I've ever had the pleasure of reading. It's also quite beautiful and utterly heart-wrenching. Especially when Arthur gave up his sight like that.

This anon also wants to say that she loves the crossovers and references in here and thinks that writer!anon is amazing.

Dear Writernon,

I absolutely loved this story, it was truly an epic (I mean, in every sense; They had to go on a journey, there were villains and heroes and just, wow)! And that you finished this by the time I got to it was just a plus.

And the crossover! You blended two manga, legends and just a bit of history together beautifully. I loved this, Writernon. Absolutely loved it.

Never stop writing. Not just in fandom, or this fandom, never stop writing in general. You're truly talented.

Author!anon, I swear you're author!English-speaking!Ohkawa in disguise... or something.

This was beautiful, beautiful, and all the myths and everything, how you mixed them in-- it was worth every minute. <3 Thank you for this great piece of work.

I can't wait to see what else you conjure.

I found this on TV tropes, loved the idea of a xxxHolic crossover... But... Wow... Your work is amazing. As a die-hard mythology nerd I would just like to let you know; I love you. Marry me? =P
