Anyone considering a move to Dreamwidth? anonymous June 4 2013, 19:10:38 UTC
Since the anonmeme has just moved from LJ to DW, I was thinking about maybe the kink meme moving too? It's easy to import all posts over there, so we wouldn't be losing any content by doing so, and then we wouldn't have to deal with LJ problems anymore ( ... )

I mod the old-prompts index, and I wouldn't be able to change all the links if they were transferred. If the LJ isn't actually being taken down but future installments will be on DW, that's cool by me, though. Maybe some kind of presence on Tumblr would help to attract newbs.

Believe it or not, someone has set up a tumblr account linking to the older (and new) prompts. I know for a fact it brought in at least one writer; that said, said writer had issues using LJ. So that might be a sign in favour of a move.

Ah, mine's the Pinboard. Wasn't familiar with the Tumblr. Well, I'm in favour as long as the old LJ stays up, though I'll have to leave the LJ prompts in the Pinboard. NOT spending months relinking them all, no way.

Actually, DW lets you completely import the comm and the replies, so everything that's on the index should remain linked when you import it. So long as the original links are left in place (and/or LJ doesn't purge the comm later) then you shouldn't need to worry about the links at all.

Re: the meme slowing every round: It's actually been a relatively stable three weeks per freeze since December. ;p (Yes, I track these things)

Myself, I've been an LJ girl since 2006. I actually maintain two journals. I'll always love the place. That said, if moving to DW would increase activity and convenience, I'd support it.

One issue, though. Some of us have on going fills in part 24 and PPF 7. If we move to DW, would we continue to update on LJ? Or would we start updating on the copied threads? And would that affect people using notifications?

I also agree with LJ traffic possibly not transferring. It would be interesting if there was some way to phase it -- so that for a while people could comment on LJ or DW as they wished (and the comments would be mirrored), thus maintaining all traffic, but probably not possible.

A couple more things... anonymous June 6 2013, 09:00:25 UTC
At the moment, it looks that while a lot of the km has already been transferred to the DW version, nothing later than about mid-January has been transferred. If we're really going to consider a move, I vote that first of all we should finish the comment transfers and get everything up to date.

Also, if we do make the transfer to DW, I'd be willing to copy updates there back to the LJ Fill List, and vice versa.

I don't really know how to navigate DW though...

Like I'm sure its not that hard, and I'm totally for anything that would increase activity, but any time I wander over there I just get lost and confused

DW is practically a clone of LJ, just with an uglier layout.

Could you be more specific about what difficulty you have?

Dreamwidth has comment length limits, in theory, but I've never seen anyone hit them.

I vote for moving.

I honestly don't mind- seriously, the only reason I signed up for LJ is because of this forum. Kink. Fanfic-ing place. Whatever. I've tried using LJ, for other purposes, but eh, screw it. Too much problems going around.

I have no regrets left here. Let's move- Even if I don't have a DW account, I'll happily make one if there's no errors and all the problems LJ has.

So another one for moving, I guess. Before I bookmark more fics here. xD

I don't have a dreamwidth account, and all the journals I've seen there have this painfully annoying "Content not for viewers under 13" warning for EVERY post, like you can't just say "I'm fine" and it lets you browse the journal, you have to click it EVERY TIME. Kinkmeme is obviously not for under 13, if that warning is going to be on the dreamwidth version, oppose.

I have a Dreamwidth account, and that warning is not default. You probably just saw a bunch of journals that put it there. Dreamwidth doesn't even allow anyone under 13 to make an account, so that is a non-issue.

If you don't want to move to DW because you don't have an account there, you could just post without making one. Unlike LJ, DW actually lets you see comments while not logged in. Also, making an account is simple, and if you have an LJ one, you can import it onto DW.

except for the annoying "yes I agree" posts every time you visit the meme because the meme will have the warning because of the whole content not suitable for 13 year olds thing. the adminds are obliged to check that box, so it technically is default.

Shouldn't it be the same on LJ, however? Whenever I'm logged out and visit communities or journals with adult content, like fanficrants, it warns me that it's a mature community. The mods should be obliged to make that default here as well.
