So many stories that will never see life.  Letters, words and phrases locked like strands of DNA in embryonic structures frozen on my hard drive or carried around with me on that sterile third testicle I call a thumb drive.

Got a nice, personal rejection from Kevin J. Anderson of my story "Dick Spigott, Paranormal Plumber" for the Blood Lite 2 antho, with comments.  He liked the main character and the set up but the plot itself just didn't grab him enough to publish it.

Long time, no post.

Got a few things already scheduled coming out in 2010.  A poem in Star*Line, the official magazine of the Science Fiction Poetry Ass'n.  I like writing poetry, playing with words.  My essay on the film "Dr. Giggles" is scheduled for a book entitled "Butcher Knives and Body Counts."  And I already have a new legal history piece ( Read more... )

Things looking up..."Shadows of the Emerald City" has confirmed acceptance of my story.  I signed a contract today for the first time in a while...felt good.

Working on a humorous horror story for the HWA anthology "Blood Lite II."  Acceptance will probably not come easy, since there will be heavy hitters submitting to this one.  But I'm going to ( Read more... )

My short story "Four a.m. at the Emerald City Windsor" is being held for final review for the "Shadows of the Emerald City" anthology.

My prose poem "A Partial Failure of the Kurzweil Process" will appear in the Nov-Dec issue of Star*Line, a science fiction poetry magazine edited by Bruce Boston. 

Moving up the charts over at Amazon.  As of yesterday I noticed I was ranked four spots higher as a reviewer than Newt Gingrich.  (2,864 vs. 2,868).  Of course, my accomplishment is diminished by the fact that Mr. Gingrich stopped writing reviews about a year ago.  But I wouldn't want to mention that here ( Read more... )

My younger daughter just dyed her hair blue.  Her bathroom looks like Norman Bates killed a Smurf in there.

Saw a bumper sticker this morning:

Lee Battersby just won the 2008 Australian Shadows Award, the Australian equivalent of the Stoker Award.  The best part is, his winning story, "The Claws of Native Ghosts," was contained in an anthology called "The Beast Within," put out by a small press venue, Graveside Tales.  (Graveside published one of my stories in its first anthology, Fried!
