Lost and Found (Part 14a).
"Jules, where are we going?" Scott followed her at a quick walk, her soft giggles drifting back to his ears. She didn't answer, and he sighed, letting her lead him on to the...dining hall? He blinked, trailing her inside.
When the door opened, the lights were thrown on and all the cliffhangers jumped up, yelling out, "Surprise!" There were lots of handmade decorations and a very...lop-sided...cake sitting on a table in the middle of the room.
"You guys didn't," he said, laughing a little as he stared around. There was some banner art that was obviously Auggie's work, and then the cake, and Peter, looking smug. He smiled -- a tiny smile -- at his Counselor, quite sure who had instigated this party.
All the other teen's came up to him, laughing slightly as they beat him on the back and greeted one another. They all seemed more than happy and just excited to be having a party. Peter leaned against the wall, that smile on his face as he watched them pull Scott in and show him all the things they had made for them all to eat. It was more than just the cake, at some urging from Peter. The biggest surprise would come in a couple more minutes.
"This is...great," Scott said, blushing furiously as Jules kissed him on the cheek. "Thanks, guys." He hadn't expected...anything, really.
Peter cleared his throat and got their attention. "This isn't the only surprise we have for the night..."
"There's more?"
"Yes there is!" He raised his voice. "You can come out now!" From the kitchen, Hannah stepped out first followed by a familiar blonde who's face was actually smiling as she stepped into the dining room and met Scott's gaze.
"You're back," he said stupidly. Then, "You're back!" He moved surprisingly quickly for such a lanky young man and hugged her tight.
Shelby laughed and threw her arms around Scott and then found herself quickly engulfed in hugs and greetings from everyone else. "It's good to see you," she returned to all their hellos.
"How are you? Are you back to stay?" Scott's gaze was concerned.
"That's what they say. Uhm, well, Mom decided I was better off here than I was anywhere else," she extemporized, letting the explanation stay at that for now. Later, she and Scott could discuss the situation in more depth.
There was a general round of applause and good natured banter, Scott sticking close by Shelby throughout the entire party. But then he saw Peter slip out, he excused himself, trying to ignore the little smirk on Shelby's lips.
Peter was already at the small garage area where his boxing bag and other paraphernalia was. He had been happy to see the smile on Scott's face. The party had been more than worth it, and the way Scott's face had lit up when he'd seen Shelby had made it even better. However, it had also started questions scrolling through his mind. And god, how could he be jealous of a _teenager_? Scott _should_ be looking at kids his own age. Shit, he was old enough to be Scott's _father_!
"What're you doing?" Scott leaned casually in the doorway, gaze following Peter as he moved.
"Thought I'd get in some practice." Peter motioned to the boxing bag with the gloves he had in his hand.
"Need some company?"
A rueful smile lit his face and he couldn't help the nod that accompanied it. Peter focused on putting some tape on his hands, tossing the boxing gloves aside. "You seemed happy with your surprise..."
"Well, of course I was. You know Shelby and I got close," he answered, arching an eyebrow as he stepped further into the room. Then he slowly began grinning. "You're not...are you jealous?"
"No!" he denied, blinking in surprise as his eyes flew up to Scott's. "Of course not! I know you and Shelby are close...there's nothing wrong with that...you _should_ be forming attachments with people your own age, Scott. It's perfectly normal..." And he was rambling...completely and totally rambling.
A soft laugh left his lips. "You're jealous," he sing-songed as he approached Peter, almost like a stalking cat. He wanted, very much in that moment, to kiss him again. Almost to see if it was all real. If that kiss a few nights back had been as real as it'd felt.
Peter shook his head in amusement, doing his best to cover his sudden discomfiture. "You know, smug doesn't fit you, Scott...it really doesn't..."
"What does, then?" he asked softly, now all seriousness as he approached Peter.
"I...I don't know..." Peter found his gaze anywhere but on the young man's. The look on Scott's face, the way the boy moved, this had to be the way prey felt when being stalked...because, damn the look on Scott's face...
Scott smiled at that. "Then let me kiss you. I think I deserve it, it being my birthday and everything."
The counselor laughed slightly, finishing off taping his knuckles before he finally looked up at Scott. "You think you deserve it, hmm?" Fuck, what was he doing? Getting himself in deeper, that's what! But he couldn't fucking stop it. It was a train wreck waiting to happen and he couldn't put on the brakes to slow them down or anything, for all that Scott seemed to be in control of this ride.
"Yeah...I do." He leaned in then, taking the choice away from Peter, really. He knew in his own way that this could bring them nothing but trouble, but somehow he couldn't find the time to care. Or the energy.
A soft moan escaped Peter and he brought one hand up to cup the back of Scott's head. He deepened the kiss, his tongue darting out to skim Scott's mouth even as he stepped in against Scott's body. Every other time they'd kissed like _this_, they'd been sitting down. It was a completely different sensation when he could press the length of his body against Scott's, showing Scott just the effect he had on him with one simple kiss.
A shudder ran along Scott's spine only to center itself in his groin. God, it felt wonderful. Not only because it was Peter, but because it was someone who really cared about him. He knew that, as he'd known nothing else. So he answered the kiss, their tongues dancing and bodies pressed together.
"God, Scott," he breathed softly when they separated for breath, leaning his forehead against Scott's and standing there, holding him close with his eyes closed.
“What?" he asked, his voice strained as his hands ran up and down Peter's
back. He wanted him -- oh God, how he wanted him!
He wasn't going to ruin this moment. Not on Scott's birthday of all days! A gentle smile lit his face and he shook his head slightly. "Nothing," he murmured softly, tilting his head to kiss Scott once more tenderly.
He sighed into the kiss, eyes closing. He wished Peter would take the damn tape off his hands and put them to better use. He wanted it so badly in this moment he could hardly stand it.
Pulling away, Peter smiled at Scott, caressing his face lightly. "Happy birthday, Scott...now, can I give you the present I got you?"
Even to his own ears he sounded breathless when he answered. "Sure."
Peter stepped back and began pulling the tape off his hands. The same tape he'd just managed to wrap his hands in. By the time he got to the door, he simply tossed them into the garbage can and held the door open. "Then, let's go to my office..."
Scott followed, a slight smile gracing his lips. He hoped silently that Shelby was doing alright back at the party with everyone.
He stepped over to his desk and picked up the ball that was sitting there. “Head's up!" he called and turned, tossing the ball toward Scott.
His hands came up automatically to catch it and he stared, mouth slightly open.
"It's a football, Scott," he helped, lifting his brows and staring over at Scott with amusement in his eyes.
"Well, I know that!" He made as if to throw it at Peter's head.
"Hey, hey! Don't do that...look at it," he retorted, laughing. He'd gotten it off eBay and it was signed by several of the current all stars for the Redskins...Scott's favorite team.
And he did, finally look. Really look. And his mouth fell open again as he read the names. "Oh my God," he said, a delighted smile on his lips as he clutched the football. "Thank you..." He turned that same smile on Peter now.
He laughed as well, feeling a warmth fill him at Scott's reaction. "So, you like it?"
"Fuck yeah!" He laughed, coming over and darting in to kiss him.
Peter returned the kiss, wrapping his arms around the teen and pulling him in close. "I'm glad you like it..."
"I love it," he said softly, leaning into Peter with a sigh. Here, now, in this moment, everything was perfect. Everything.
