A serious question for all the artists out there.

I'm going to start selling packs of my hand-textured paper on Etsy. I searched all over the site and all I could find for comparison are digital packs whereas I will be selling the actual hand-dyed paper. I'm not certain how to price it. So the question is, what would you be willing to pay for hand-dyed, completely unique paper? What ( Read more... )

We have similar methods for pricing, I think. That was definitely going to be my fall-back if I couldn't get any feedback. I guess what I wanted by posting the journal was to test the waters before I actually got in, so to speak XD It's amazing how much time talking to customers can actually take, isn't it? I used to leave that out and totally shortchanged myself.

Thank you for the input. I never know when I've totally left something out (like the PR work in the past) Do you remember the approximate size of this little book?

And while I have your ear, do you happen to know whether salt textures compromise the archivalness of a paper? I've heard conflicting hearsay.

Cost of materials and effort as Nam has pointed out are fantastic factors to start your pricing by. I guess in the end its all about demand as well, perhaps do a small batch at the highest price you would consider, and gradually lower it till you reach a comfortable selling point after you see how it goes?
I am rather interested in the idea though, I love textured paper and can be way too lazy to create my own XD I usually prefer to purchase, so ill keep my eye out for what you come up with!

for a really nice piece of paper, I'd, personally, be willing to pay up to $10 for it, depending on how big, what I could use on it, and how nifty it was, but that would be including shipping. So, if it was about 9x12 or 11x14, had a really good pattern on it, and I could use markers and watercolors on it, I'd be willing to pay a pretty penny for it. But, I have a bit of a paper-fetish.... X3
