I think I'm going to have to post my agreement with Teal - a temporary withdrawl from the bay area sucks, but it sounds like events have rushed ahead.
I'd offer to share the place with you but - no offense - I don't want to double my commute length. If my hours were just a little different, and none of my commute was going to be during 'peak' hours, I would seriously consider it.
But you're caught with events outpacing your ability to adjust to them in an 'optimal' way. So you do go back to OH. The miracle of the internet means not losing touch with people, though face-to-face stuff falls off... which sucks. But you can do other stuff (like learn new things and get yourself a new job) while you're out there, and make a triumphant return?
I hate like hell to see you go, but it just looks like your options only get worse if you don't... unless you find a new job. Which is entirely possible, but a gamble.
I'm not sure what you'd expect me to comment on here. We've chatted via other mediums and I've expressed everything I can there. You've had answers for anything and everything, and as much as I might not like the notion, they were all valid reasons. And, you've already done away with the one big stumbling block I had, personally, with you getting back to OH anyway, so.....
While I still think it's not the best thing in the universe for you, right now, experience has taught me a hard lesson. Take what you can, when you can. With the NeoCons in power, there are diminishing returns on opportunities, for what trickle are actually starting to crop up anyway.
