Painting Formica/laminate?

Has anyone taken on such a task and if so, are there any particular products you would recommend?  I just bought a formica topped Saarinen tulip table that has some pretty bad scratches in the top.  I'm not too concerned about the filling in the scratches, my understanding is that Bondo works pretty well and I use that on all sorts of furniture ( Read more... )

Sorry, I was out all day yesterday. I think I can swing that, hopefully. Clean a room really well then keep the dogs out . . . Are you still living with the counter? I'm curious about the durability of it.

I haven't tried it yet, but I think that starting with a primer specifically for plastics might help. I think my hardware store carries it, but I normally buy it at a hobby shop (useful when painting plastic models).

I think Kilz, or maybe Zinsser, makes a primer that's supposed to work on just about any surface, including ceramic, so I think that would be a good one. I'll look around some more DIY boards and see if there's any kind of consensus. I may stop by Sherwin Williams as well, as they tend to really know their stuff.
