Bedside table -looking for a solution

I'm not one of those whose beside table holds a solitary lamp. Aside from the lamp, which I may change to a wall mounted one to give me more space, there is usually the following:
  • glass of ice tea
  • extra bottle of ice tea - I have a dry mouth and sometimes need to take migraine meds in the middle of the night
  • box of tissues
  • two bottles of daily meds
  • cell ( Read more... )

It sounds like you need a big nightstand! Have you thought about ditching the traditional bedside table and going with a dresser or desk, something that could do double-duty and give you enough space? Or one of those headboards with shelves could work, too. Or even a set of nesting tables?

It's not so much big, but organized. There are times when I can't put the light on to find something. Then there are crashes and bangs.

google "night stands" tons of different styles come up.

I personally have one that is a few feet tall with one drawer and a lower shelf. The drawer is big enough for a book, my kindle, 3 tv remotes, pills and various other shit I've thrown in there. Tissues go on the lower shelf and on top I have a small bed side lamp, the control for my heating blanket, an alarm clock, my cell phone and a bottle or two of water.

My nit stand, which holds a thousand items I swear, is actually a wooden printer cart.

I'm trying to avoid knocking stuff off in the night.

What about instead of loking at nightstands/nighttables..look at shelving. Wall shelving can be easy to install and looks pretty chic. I made some floating shelves for my sons nightstand and it works really great (he has a giant lego clock, a small basket of stuff, a glass of water, a timer, a lamp and it all fits with room to spare). Ikea has a lot of single shelf brackets and shelves so you could make it as elaborate or as simple as you'd like or buy a wall shelf thats totally complete.

Here's is my sons night table..the first one I built (wall unit because I hated the clutter that ended up under any table we had there)...I don't have pics of the the multiple tiered one I made but this gives you an idea:

Thanks, I think these are a good start, multi-level will help me when groping in the night.

Pretty, but not functional for me.
