Non-toxic dyes for cats?

Dec 06, 2014 03:02

So I have three cats and thought it would be cute to have them 'sign' the gifts that I'll be making for my family this year.

Are there any non-toxic-to-cats dyes that I can use on their paws so they can leave their paw prints on the things I intend on making?

I used mud one year for the dog prints for a Christmas card to my parents from their dog. It turned out super cute.

I'll be following this because paint sounds super cute!

I'll be covering the prints with clear epoxy, so any medium would do. I just don't want one that will kill my cats when they lick their paws.

Hmmm. I should use sand!mud from one of the Lake Erie beaches near me.

I've used water alone for the paw print, then colored it in after outlining it.

my mom used to use koolaid packets for this - i think she just used a lot less water, and then sealed it with something.

I can't say if it's officially bad for pets, but never hurt any of ours!

As a kid I used non-toxic stamp pads (like for little kids) and everyone loved the cards.

I suppose finger paints of a non-toxic variety could work as well.

You can use a warm cloth to get the majority of it off them too.

Food dye might also work.

This person recommends a baby footprint kit.

Good luck, I hope they come out cute!

I'd say food colour. Or even better, colours from foods. Mash up blueberries for a nice purple-blue print. Strawberry should work for red. Mashed up cat grass for green.

The hard part it going to be to make the cats hold still and then not escape and spread the fun through your flat :-) I know, I've done wall painting with cats... *sigh*

The only cat I'm worried won't sit still and let me do it is my year old tabby because she's still very much in her kitten phase and is a little pain in the balls.
