It's on the outside of a stainless pan (shiny metal)?
If so, there is very little you can do that will damage the pan. You might leave some scrape marks, but those, while they may mar the appearance, won't affect the utility of the pan.
Put it in a warm (150-200F) oven for ~30 minutes to warm things up, and then use a putty knife, razer blade, or other scraper to remove the plastic. Finish up, if there is any reside with a metal pan scrubber, or with acetone or acetone-based nail polish remover to get the last traces off.
