2. The Murder of Roger Ackroyd is considered by many to be Christie's best work. I definitely recommend it. My personal favorite, so far, is Cat Among the Pigeons, but I definitely want to read Appointment With Death, since I've seen the BBC version on television. Oh and I only exclude them because I own them! Little pointless for people to recommend me books I already own ;)

Most of these people read when they're in high school, but I still love them. Dante's Inferno is kinda hard to get through if you're a literal-minded person like me, so I had to get one with footnotes expaining all the symbolism.

Really? I only read a few Shakespeare books, a lot of short stories, and.. A book on the Titanic, Lord of the Flies, and Ethan Frome. Sad I never had the privilege of reading the classics.

Caribbean Mystery sounds good! And oh, Classics as in, well, any type of classic! American classics, Victorian literature, etc. Any real good book that people commonly declare as fantastic.. before, say, 1950. ;)
So all your recommendations sound great! I forgot about David Copperfield!

I also agree with the few people who have already said Thomas Hardy. Lastly, possibly you'd like The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton which I thought was pretty good.
