Hello dear book lovers! I was wondering if I could ask for some book recommendations on a few topics :) Please!
They are...

1. The 'Lost World' genre. Like Heart of Darkness and King Solomon's Mines. Those wonderful classics that explore Africa and all it's mysteries :)

2. Must-Read Agatha Christie! ...Other than Murder on the Orient Express and And ( Read more... )

As for #3, I read Wilkie Collins' The Woman in White last year and it's AMAZING. Very intricate, yet readable. I'd recommend it! =)

1. I believe that Arthur Conan Doyle wrote a book called The Lost World. I'm not 100% sure of the title or genre, though. You might want to check it out. Herland by Charlotte Perkins Gilman is about some American or European adventurers who discover a tribe of women in the Amazon. If you don't mind a strongly feminist POV, that might fit the bill.

2. The Murder of Roger Ackroyd is considered by many to be Christie's best work. I definitely recommend it. My personal favorite, so far, is Cat Among the Pigeons, but I definitely want to read Appointment With Death, since I've seen the BBC version on television. Death on the Nile, Murder in Mesopotamia, and Evil Under the Sun are also some of my favorites. Her autobiography and her book about the time she spent in the Middle East with her second husband, Max Mallowan are also defintitely worth reading. (The latter is called Come, Tell Me How You Live3. I don't know why you're excluding Emily Brontë or Jane Austen, but I defintely recommend Charlotte Brontë's friend, Elizabeth Gaskell. I ( ... )

Thank you so much for the recommendations!
I'll see if I can find any of those at some of the local book shoppes. Especially the Agatha Christie ones :)

Oh and I only exclude them because I own them! Little pointless for people to recommend me books I already own ;)

#3: The Time Machine, Dracula, Dante's Inferno, Of Mice & Men
Most of these people read when they're in high school, but I still love them. Dante's Inferno is kinda hard to get through if you're a literal-minded person like me, so I had to get one with footnotes expaining all the symbolism.

I completely forgot about The Time Machine! All I know about it is from an episode of Wishbone Teehee and it frightened me as a child, sadly. But I think I can take it now, thank you, and for all the rest!

Really? I only read a few Shakespeare books, a lot of short stories, and.. A book on the Titanic, Lord of the Flies, and Ethan Frome. Sad I never had the privilege of reading the classics.

Oh, thank you!

Caribbean Mystery sounds good! And oh, Classics as in, well, any type of classic! American classics, Victorian literature, etc. Any real good book that people commonly declare as fantastic.. before, say, 1950. ;)

So all your recommendations sound great! I forgot about David Copperfield!

This will sound very cliche, but Anna Karennina. I don't like classics in general, but was blown away by this. I couldn't put it down. I thought it was utterly fantastic. I thought I'd struggle with it for months, but it was actually a very quick easy read for me.

I also agree with the few people who have already said Thomas Hardy. Lastly, possibly you'd like The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton which I thought was pretty good.

I've always wanted to read that but I've been scared it would be, like you said, a struggle. But.. I just might pick it up. :)

And thank you!
