The Last Legion

Happy New Year, everybody! We're back with the sporking of Doug Lefler's The Last Legion. No grinding of teeth here, just a lot of giggling and a bit of headdesking :)

( Once upon a time in Britannia )

Since we already sporked the original "Elizabeth" movie a while ago, of course we won't spare the sequel either - Shekhar Kapur's Elizabeth - Read more... )

Ambrosinus: Storytelling time! That sword was forged from star iron, cooled in the blood of a lion.

Brian Jacques's version was more realistic.

Every version we've so far come across was more realistic than that. But at least, it was entertaining...

Bwahahaha! That movie sounds like comedy gold - thank you so much for starting my year with such a fine sporking!

Out of curiosity, where did they get a lion in Britain??

The Romans wanted to impress the natives with a proper venatio to facilitate the conquest and it failed because some idiot stole the lion they had brought with them for that purpose?

But...

Is that the only Gothic name anyone knows in the whole wide world or what?

*pouts* ;-)

The movie is downright hilarious! And another point in its favour is that it carries no message whatsoever (or at least, we weren't able to get it ;D), so it's just real, true, unadulterated fun - switch off your brain and have a one-and-a-half-hours laugh (no eyecandy, though).

Wulfila!! WE were already thinking of you while watching it!

I dunno about the lack of eye candy. To my mind, both Colin Firth and Aishwarya Rai fit the description.

Plus, the acrobatic adventures of Mira the Tamil ninja (or whatever) were lots of fun to watch.

Oh, Aishwarya Rai is definitely a sight to behold, what with her beautiful face and those curves! And she was so visibly having fun with her role!

But as to Colin Firth... he's just (at least to us) totally miscast here, he needs to wear a polo-neck jumper and a jacket, not a Roman-style uniform (same goes for John Hannah ;).
