The Last Legion

Happy New Year, everybody! We're back with the sporking of Doug Lefler's The Last Legion. No grinding of teeth here, just a lot of giggling and a bit of headdesking :)

( Once upon a time in Britannia )

Since we already sporked the original "Elizabeth" movie a while ago, of course we won't spare the sequel either - Shekhar Kapur's Elizabeth - Read more... )

Is it wrong that I'm almost wanting to see this now, despite the sporking and the overall apparent batshittery nature of the whole thing? *ponders*

Thanks, history_spork and I look forward to seeing what gets sporked in 2008! :)

You absolutely have to see it! It's hilarious! Plus, it doesn't carry any political messages whatsoever, so one can simply switch off their brains and have a good laugh!

Thank you! We're looking forward to 2008, too - let's see what Hollywood comes up with for us!

in a story that wants us to believe that Romulus Augustulus ended up as Uther Pendragon

Well, I own a book that proves conclusively that Julius Caesar was actually Jesus Christ, so I'm open for all kinds of interpretations. But what I would really like to know is: Did the Indian kung-fu chick end up as Morgan le Fay? I think Quentin Tarantino should answer that question in his first foray into the historical genre.

WHAT?? *click link* And - we have a winner! *headdesk*

No, no, the kung-fu lady ends up marrying Aurelius, thus becoming Augustulus/Pendragon's surrogate/step/whatever mum (at least, she's the only eyecandy in the whole movie, since Aishwarya Rai is teh beauty while Colin Firth in Roman-style uniform looks... weird).

We fully support the Tarantino project, though! Kill Arthur Vol. 1?

Colin Firth can't sell me anything other than Mr. Darcy. I still giggle at the memory of The Wig in "The Girl with the Pearl Earring". I would have been surprised if he had pulled off a convincing Aurelius.

"The Mists of Avalon" was one of the first comprehensive re-tellings of the Arthurian legends I read (at the age of, what, 12?), which is why I've always had a soft spot for Morgaine. She deserves a kick-ass movie of her own.

Haha, great sporking! I was really looking foreward to this one after having tortured myself with the movie a month ago.

And why does every "historical" take on the Arthurian legends end up abusing Hadrian's Wall like that?

There's a strong argument that, if real, Arthur's last battle may have been on the Wall, at the fort called Camboglanna.

Neat, I didn't know that!

Camboglanna is the fort now known as Castlesteads. It used to be identified with Birdoswald, but that was probably Banna.
