For me, DVDs or TV in bed :) Or, you know, sleeeeeeeep.
More bits of work to do keep landing at my feet. The latest is that the proofs have arrived for the book I've edited on Aegean writing systems (it's available to pre-order at a discount already, so I feel like I have to actually finish the editing process and get it out on the shelves!)
Will try to come back tomorrow, but I do have a lunch date with a friend who has just had a book on Sanskrit come out.
My bed isn't comfortable at all, so I try not to spend too much time in it. There is a super comfortable recliner in the living room. Definitely like reading, though last night I accidentally read until 1:45 in the morning! Oops!
Doing homework now. Sorta restful because it's a break from work work. it's my busy season.
13 weeks and 4 days until I am done with school!!!
Generally, I read when I need to rest/relax. I watch TV when I get too burnt out or when I'm procrastinating--and I'm fighting that urge right now. (Revisions are giving me a hard time, sooo...avoiding. Or really trying not to avoid. They have to get done
( ... )
With a ten-year-old, I'm smack dab in the middle. There are times when I wish I had more time to myself, but then I (almost immediately) think "my baby's getting too old! I don't want to rush it! I want him to stay forever!"
I'm assuming that last part will change when he's a teenager. I think those years are given to us to ease us into our empty nests.
I do not yet know how to relax independently. I normally need to use one of those mindfulness apps, play the exercise 5 times whilst berating myself for not listening. Still practicing. Turns out relaxing is a real skill and it's hella possible to go a long way through life without learning it.
I get this. I think I know how to do some relaxing things, but I kind of already need to be in a good place in my mind before I can get into them. Most of the time my mind is on stressy/worky stuff, and I have no idea how to relax from that. I stay up reading work-related articles and hope that I'll get so tired out I fall asleep anyway!
Glad to know I'm not alone! I used to think "workaholics" were crazy, without realising that I was basically doing the same thing to myself! It's a real learning curve but I have a load of supportive apps that help when I remember to use them
but I kind of already need to be in a good place in my mind before I can get into them
This is key. Sometimes when I'm really worked up, it's impossible to relax unless I BREATHE first. And, sometimes, I have to breathe..."Breathe in...1...2...3...Breathe out...1...2...3..." for a WHILE before I'm calm enough to take in what those mindfulness apps are trying to say.

Thank you bb! I really need someone to make me stop sometimes! (And I usually resist because there's so much that needs doing...)
I'm glad your team won! And good luck with not procrastinating and getting those revisions done :)

I find it's best done at the beach. You have to have a breeze to keep the insects away. Or screens. Or both.
