Thursday we had a severe late-summer storm--straight-line winds 75+ mph, golf-ball size hail for about 15 minutes, heavy rain. Pretty amazing display of Nature's power!  Our two cars were sitting out, and though the bodies were dimpled a bit, no windshields / windows broken--unlike most of the people in my neighborhood.  But I had two windows ( Read more... )

I'd help with the clean up if I lived closer. :)

32 people is a lot for an English class! I hope they're all good and dedicated students. :)

clean-up was a multi-day process! I could have used the help--took me about 24 hours of raking to do all the "visible" yard. Still haven't done the fenced in, private back yard. maybe this weekend?

32 -- holy cow! That's a heck of a class...I don't recall any of my upper-level English courses being more than 20 people. Crazy! I guess that it's a good sign, though. Maybe they all saw that you were teaching it and decided to jump right in? :)

I ended up with 34 in the class--the cap / limit for upper-division courses. MPU hasn't been too enthusiastic about hiring new people and we have 2 unfilled positions right now. So that means bigger class sizes across the board. I'd like to dream it had something to do with my "star power," but realistically, I don't think so.

still haven't been able to get an insurance adjuster out to look at stuff. they're way too busy. I'd like to get a roof and garage siding out of the deal, but it's sketchy. The insurance folks don't like to give you back the money you paid in all those years.

I'm so glad you like G & Ts. They're yummy in the summer--very refreshing (and actually good anytime, IMHO). I've also heard that the tonic is supposed to be good for you, but that may be a fable.
