I love how you've gone inside Butterbur's head and fit this into the scene so naturally, so easily -- it could have happened just like this, it works perfectly.

Really, Butterbur's whole attitude about his life, his work, his wisdom... you hit perfect notes with them all.

Thank you, Lorie! Once I got going, it was a fun one to do but oh dear, getting started was hard!

Oh, what an interesting and delightful exploration of "The Sage of Bree". Yet another "happy" Ring fic-- I shall go distracted!

I loved the writing in this. Particularly:

"big not so much on account of his height or his breadth but more in his demeanour and the way he looked at a person as if he could tell the exact shade of his heart and how many beats were left to it"

What a great description of Strider! *melts* Also:

"their leader trying to be brave and almost succeeding"

I'm dying of adorability. Wonderful job. :)

Thank you for reading!
I started off writing it with the intention of Butterbur keeping the Ring and it all being very angsty. But honestly, I couldn't make that work believably. The innkeeper's an interesting little character, isn't he? And Strider at the Pony is just guh! *wibbles*

Ooh that ending took me by surprise, but in a good way! I'm so glad that Barliman's good sense and honest pride prevailed.

What a wonderful fic - thank you.

Well, you know how I feel about your Butterbur and how he should develop a sassy relationship with Nob...But I just want to say again how delightful I just felt this whole story! I just loved how you got in his head and your descriptions of Strider just made me warm and fuzzy all over! Stern!Strider! :-) I wish I could commission you to write more Bree fics! :D

Oh this is an absolute delight! I love your Butterburr, a little bit self important but with good intentions, going about the daily business of running a bar, until Frodo and the Ring come in. I love how the Ring tries to seduce him, but how his good common sense wins out. I think he must be part hobbit!

Thank you for your kind words! I always like Butterbur in the book and thought he'd be interesting to write. I think he's got some hobbit in him, too ;)
