LiveJournal, it seems I've left you behind, but I wanted to let you know that you're 80,000 times better than any of the current social-networking trends.

That is because Twitter, Facebook, Myspace et al are really not "social" in any way.

Huh. Considering that I have not posted in my LJ in nearly two years, I suppose I have no internet social life whatsoever.

Seriously dude, you've lost it. Re-prioritize.

You know, I'm not so sure. Maybe just because I never use this thing anymore -- and although I'd agree where myspace (which I've always hated), facebook (which I only use because it's the best way to stay updated on my brother's status in Afghanistan), and twitter (which I will never, ever use) are concerned, I sort of found new internet hangouts in selectbutton.net's forums, MAL, and most significantly, last.fm (which makes sense because, well, music, and it's a lot more conducive to actual conversation than facebook seems to be (and most people don't actually use facebook for any sort of meaningful interaction)). In the post-LJ age, it seems more specialized forums and social networks are where the more interesting things are taking place ( ... )

I find myself nostalgic about it quite a bit, actually. Every time I look at Facebook, just about. :)

I didn't take it too personally, the defriending, but I was kind of confused and like "no! Keep me in the loop! I have a feeling I will check back in... a year..." I remember you well, too. I'd like to check now to see if you're actually updating. If everyone else was as slow in responding to you as I am, shit...

Sorry I just got this!

I remember you well, Kristen, and I quite miss our (too-fleeting) interactions; I have spent an inordinate amount of time in the wastelands, busying myself with World of Warcraft/solipsism (horror of horrors), academia, and my ongoing efforts to rid myself of all that grandiloquence to which my LJ was a monument, such that it is, perhaps, to late to seek you out. Hope, however, really does spring eternal.

SOLIPSISM? Why? :( Why would you do that to yourself, man?

Nah, it's not too late. :) Hey! Still using the entire Oxford dictionary?

I am not entirely sure, in retrospect; the last nine months (or so) have been metamorphic for me - I only wish it had happened sooner.

As for the dictionary, and my quondam tumidity, my word-hoard remains as well-supplied as ever, but I've grown considerably more parsimonious with respect to the employment of its contents, as I've striven to communicate with people, rather than at them. As might be expected, I was thrilled to see the notification of your reply appear in my inbox; we ought to touch base from time to time.

I think that's a good idea, because otherwise we'll keep hiding in the drier, thinking the game is still going, when everyone's a... -stops taking your idiom literally- Yes, sporadic chatting is a swell and very possible idea!

Metamorphic how? -update plz.- Are you offended by online shorthand? I am. But I'm hypocritical for the sake of flippancy.

I think your writing is much more casual than before. You sold out, man. -Kidding.- :) Happy to hear back from you so quickly.

so, it's been a year and a half now. how about a little life update for your fans?

i always admired you for your honesty. you had some pretty good screwups in your day, but you were never afraid to own them fully.

I have a feeling you guys might have called me out on them if I didn't. That's one of the things I like about LJ: intelligent peeps. Anyway, I appreciate the kick in the butt, and I plan to post a bit more again. Hope to see new entries from you on my friend's page!
