Well aside from being drained due to lack of sleep, we learned some bad news today. Sammy has a large mass growing on his shoulder, which the vet thinks is cancerous. He's in so much pain and can barely walk. We had some tests run on him and will get the results back on Monday, but it doesn't look good. I've cried a lot today, as Sammy is my

I'm so sorry. :( Losing a beloved family pet is so very hard! I recently had to let my baby go, and it just hurts so much. Especially bad for you with the kids :( *hugs*

Exactly--as if I wasn't already under enough stress. I just hate having to make the decision to put him to sleep. I just wish he'd die on his own, but I hate seeing him in this much pain. He sometimes cries when he tries to go down stairs.

When I had to make the decision to put Mara down, it really wasn't that hard. He was in pain, he wasn't eating, he wanted to be held all of the time. When the time came, the decision wasn't difficult, because I loved him, and he was hurting. I hope it works like that for you.

Did you stay with Mara when they put her down? I don't know that I could do it, but Steve said that he'd definitely be there for Sammy, if and when that time comes..
