You took something I didn't really care about (Frook) & a character I loathe (Freddie) and managed to make both fascinating and completely real. I didn't want to smack Freddie in the face with his skateboard repeatedly. How does that work? Why wasn't this ACTUAL Skins (S4/the shitass novel)?! It just proves that it's not the characters that are horrid, it's the way they're handled cos put them in the care of someone like you, and they are magical.
I love your Cook. Like proper fucking love.
AND you built a real beginning of friendship (Ems and Freddie) between two characters that like, had no real connection at all, and it worked!
You are a master weaver of tales. And I'm genuinely ~flabbergasted at your skill in creating such a cohesive and in-character portrait of these kids, AND you made it interesting and incredibly well-balanced in terms of sad things and happy things. Guh. Tip of my hat to you, dear bb. Amazing, amazing work.
I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I was recently turned to this fic by youtoxic. I just had to check out how the boys were.
It was... magnificent.
You really captured the seething emotions that were between Cook and Freds. Of course my perverse mind also enjoyed the handsy incident up against the tree... there was just so much raw emotion between them, like they had been stripped bare of everything else and all they could do was go with it. Beautifully written (the whole thing, not just the hand-jobs)!
