So I checked my Yahoo mail this morning to clear it of all the Freecycle emails, and as I got to the main page, I was greeted with three small, yet important headlines -

Iraqis defy intimidation to vote, attacks kill 31

Iran says it has started cruise missile production

Al-Qaida calls on US Muslims to attack AmericaWhat, however, is the MAJOR ( Read more... )

pop culture, politics, people just ain't no good, idiocracy, rage, fail

Hey, the oscars are the only night of the year when the gays get an entire night of television dedicated completely to their tastes and interests.

ive been thinking about this since thursday and i think the most ridiculous top story they shared with me was mark mcguire "crying as he admits to steroid use." yeah, thats so totally the most important issue of the day, thanks guys.

im not sure how stuff gets elevated to their newsworthy headlines but someone is seriously fucking up.

Yeah, I don't think I have enough of a skill set to relocate. This area has such low standards that I'm considered adequate as-is. I don't think I'll be able to find that elsewhere.

I couldn't help but notice the irony of location-dependent media: while you want the obviously more important news I'm sick of hearing about war, crime, rape, corruption... So sick that I wish I would only see Oscar related news for a year.

Well, to me, I want to know what's going on in the world, as negative as it may be. I am not the kind of person who can happily lose herself in petty, stupid things like celebrity gossip and fashion. I couldn't physically care less about such crap. So to me, even being in the middle of negativity and tragedy, that's still my primary focus. I want to know about reality, not some plastic world designed for blind idolatry & obsessive emulation.

Well I'm pretty sure you'll say otherwise if you're in it, not to sound too pessimistic but it's kind of different when you're actually part of the news, when every other day someone reminds you that a war is around the corner you get tired of waiting for it and wonder which one is worse the war or the virtual hourglass before it comes.

Anyway sorry to sound negative, it's just the last minute of a long day... Hope you're in a good mood though :)

Perhaps you're right, and I suppose I'll never know until I'm genuinely in such a situation, but I still don't feel there's a large chance of that. I don't have an avoidant personality. I want to know the facts (or as close to it as one can get these days). I want to know what's going on at all times, even if it's negative, exhausting & burns one out quickly. That's just my nature. I've never been able to tune anything out like you describe, even when I have wanted to.
