Work has ups and downs

I spent my afternoon looking for porn.  Its not as exciting as it seems when what I'm doing is picking over a computer looking for how primary school kids got exposed to hardcore porn on a computer ... kids today, eh?  When I was that age we had to make our own porn ( Read more... )

"...how primary school kids got exposed to hardcore porn on a computer..."

Had they actually been 'exposed', i.e. someone else had shown them with no contirbuting action on the kids's behalves, or had the kids sought it out themselves?

(I ask because I'm forever wound up by the media/government/antisexualists de-centering the sexual exploration of young sentient minds and re-contextualising as a deadly psychological assault by some nefarious other.)

One of a group of students from a nearby vocational college, who had been using the school's computers to take an online test when the college was having internet problems, brought it in on a memory stick.

I don't think it was done with intent, rather a student had porn on their memory stick and used it for other things, and forgot to remove it from the computer before leaving (ie. they're just increadibly stupid rather than malicious).

In my experience primary school kids who go looking for naughty pics are more than satisfied with page 3 level stuff and find anything more to be 'gross' (unless they have been abused, in which case it can vary to the extreme end).

All I can say is, I had a long list of sexual related misbehaviour at school and its probably just as well that that was back before the internet was in schools!

Ah. I'd've described that as 'stumbling across' since it was accidental happenstance, rather than anyone having any intent ...well unless the file had a give away title (or was in a folder with such) that could have been fathomed by whichever kid(s) were using said computer (In which one could argue the viewer had consent to the possibility of the material having a sexual nature.)

Maybe this should have been a "teachable moment" for 'be aware of consequences of touching things you don't understand/don't know about'. If you look in someone elses bag/flash drive, expect to find their condoms/pr0n. ...actually this is a lesson most adults could do with learning!

Kids are inquisitive, its in their nature to go poke through anything that they can. The memory stick couldn't be seen physically, so it just popped up on the list of available drives ... I know if that happenned to me I'd have wanted to look!
