I wasn't sure how I felt about this episode while watching it, but after I finished I realized this is the first time I really felt like I was emotionally invested in what was going on and I kept thinking about it. I had to work at two different offices and when I was in the car on the way to the second place I kept thinking about it. And I think I want to watch it again, you know, maybe TODAY and I just saw it this morning for the first time.
Your analysis is brilliant, although like Alex's my brain is refusing to make connections. I keep picking up on symbolic scenes and having trouble making them connect, so kudos to you! :)
i'd love to see Alex facing up to the scary clown! that would probably be kickass ^_^
it's silly everytime i hear the beginning of Vienna i instantly think it's going to be a cover version of White Rabbit - i don't know why i keep making this connection! there isn't one cover that sounds even remotely like it, lol!
I do love your theories and analysis of Ashes. You write in such a clear way and even it if all turns out to be something entirely different in the end, it all makes such perfect sense.
I completely fell in love with that song the moment I heard it in the pilot &hearts
ILU SO MUCH! I love all your clever thoughts and theories about A2A. I'm so sad the first season is almost over but dood I think the next episodes might kill me from sheer brilliance.
Vienna = best. moment. ever. My mouth was actually open, it was so perfectly put together. You know what else it reminded me of? The scene in Labyrinth when Sarah smashes the glass wall of the ballroom and everything comes tumbling down around her. I'm pretty sure Alex tumbling into darkness is a nod to this scene as well!
Favourite line: "I will not have you going wobbly on me!" WOBBLY! The idea of Gene Hunt wobbling is hilarious, never mind Alex telling him in her bossy Captain of the Upper Sixth manner to buck up.
Labyrinth. I gotta be honest. I don't know it that well. *hides* BUT it has Bowie in it, right? So then yeah. I take that as an homage. :)
Here you go - that's the scene I was referring to. It comes about the middle of the movie. The ball is Sarah's idea of romance but she gradually realises that Jared is using her fantasy to keep her from reaching her goal. Fast forward to about 5:57 and watch as she smashes the wall (please excuse the 80s SFX).
Ah! Now I get it, lol! And when they're dancing, too, Bowie sort of appears and disappears which reminded me of The Clown flashing around before it turns into Gene. Very nice indeed! :)
