FIC: Surprises IX

9. Krayken
Neal woke to someone giving him a sternal rub. His yelp of pain was muffled by a stranger's hand.
"Hush, Caffrey," whispered the stranger, "I'm here to help you and your little FBI friend."
"Marabelle?" mumbled Peter, not yet fully awake, "is it already time?"
"Remove the cuffs like I showed you, Peter," Marabelle ordered as she worked at Neal's cuffs.
The soft tinkle of metal was the only indication Neal had that Peter had obeyed Marabelle's orders in the darkness of the unlit room.
Once Peter and Neal were both free, Marabelle picked Peter up.
"I can walk," Peter grumbled.
"I know," Marabelle replied, "but we will need to move too quickly for your short legs, Agent Burke."
"I'll carry him," Neal insisted.
Marabelle sighed.
"Fine, you can carry him, but keep quiet, both of you," she insisted as she handed Peter over to the CI.

Elsewhere in the building, Martin and Angel were in their room, both unable to sleep.
"Do you think Marabelle is right, Angel?" Martin asked.
"About having been taken from our parents?" Angel replied.
Martin nodded.
"Maybe," Angel replied, "but she could just as likely be lying to us in the hopes of turning us against Tabitha."(1)
BEEP!
Martin glanced over at the monitor near his bed.
"Looks like Marabelle's taking things into her own hands," he announced.
"What's she doing?" Angel asked.
"Helping our 'guests' leave," her brother replied, "Tabitha will be most displeased if we don't stop them."
"Release your pet," Angel directed.
"As you wish," Martin replied, pressing a button labeled 'KRAYKEN' as he spoke.(2)

Neal stopped.
"What is it?" Peter whispered into the CI's ear, "why have you stopped?"
"I heard something," Neal whispered back.
Marabelle, noticing that the CI wasn't following her anymore, turned around and scowled at him in the darkness.
"What are you doing, Caffrey?" she demanded crossly in a low whisper, "this isn't the time to be wandering off on your own."
"I heard something," Neal repeated for the scientist's benefit.
"Probably just your imagination," Marabelle replied dismissively.
CLANK!
"If you heard that, then I think we have a problem," Neal muttered.
Marabelle swore.
"Krayken," she muttered.
"Krayken?" Peter echoed, confused, "what's that?"
"Martin's 'pet' robot," Marabelle replied, "if that thing finds us, we're as good as dead."
"So, does that mean we need to run?" Neal asked.
Marabelle rolled her eyes.
"Of course it does, Caffrey," she growled, "now GET!"
1. Tabitha St. Germain voiced Nightmare Moon.
2. Krayken looks more like something out of a Japanese robotics lab than anything else.
