Stuck in the Middle--An Analysis

Jan 04, 2010 18:43

I have no ulterior motives when I befriend someone. I am not a wolf in sheep's clothing, I do not attack someone who has done no harm to me. And when someone harms me, I do my very best to turn the other cheek. But I can not, and will not, allow injustice to go unmarked. Even if it costs me dearly, if I lose friends because I chose to be brutally honest, I will, and I must, do it. And now, if you're even still reading by this point...here's the post itself.~h221b

As you may or may not know, back in August 2009, there was a huge falling out between wirral_bagpuss, nunewesen, rebbeccawilde, brighter2, and rjdoll2. I will not go into details here, as I don't really know all of them for one thing, and for another, most of my information concerning the falling out is very one-sided.
This falling out was so bad that other people were drawn into the conflict, whether they wanted to or not. From med_cat who was drawn in by wirral_bagpuss when she turned to her for advice and the opinion of someone outside of her circle of immediate friends, to redsockjb whose post on the conflict in reply to med_cat's post (which has since been made private) is so cryptic that it's difficult to tell whose side she's on by the post alone, to erikadelfred who tried his best to remain neutral (not sure if he still remains neutral), to holmes221b (yes me) who never did nor said anything for nor against nunewesen and company and yet was banned from a comm run by nunewesen with the claim that she was far too often subject of my discussion with other people (this is the second time ever that I am using the 'friend: nunewesen' tag), people were forced to pick sides or else have their side chosen for them.
Now we come to today, January 2010.
wirral_bagpuss posted in jeremybrett, to ask what it meant to be a fan of Jeremy Brett. Now, wirral_bagpuss may seem to be a bit of a stalker when it comes to Jeremy Brett, but if you really and truly listen to her talk about JB, you will realize that she's just got a unique perspective on life. wirral_bagpuss has gone through a lot of difficulties in her life, and she likely owes her life to JB, because he is her role-model, her inspiration.
Unfortunately, not many people take the time to listen nowadays, and her post on what happened as a result of her vexing question (it was supposed to have been f-locked from the get-go, but as she was tired at the time she posted, she neglected to change the security on the post) sparked the conflict anew when nunewesen shared it with rebbecawilde and the others here.

Now that you know what has led me to write this post, I shall now share my current personal opinions on the actions of the key players in this drama, in order of blame, from the least to the greatest. Note that this order is based on my reactions to the way they treat each other and themselves, as well as on my perceptions of their mental health (this was easier to figure out for some than for others).
wirral_bagpuss is my friend, and I am hers. That said, I can not deny that she is not entirely blameless. However, she is likely among the least to blame for the drama, along with rjdoll2.
rebbeccawilde is in the middle of the blame scale, because she hasn't been as cruel as certain others, though she has not done anything to stop them.
brighter2 is second to highest on this scale of blame. She has said some of the most hurtful things I've ever encountered, and this is coming from someone who was called some very nasty names (I'm talking 'bout names the FCC censors here).
Now the person I believe to be the most to blame for all this drama is nunewesen. She's the one who appears to be the leader of the anti-wirral_bagpuss group. She's the instigator of the drama whenever it flares up again. She's the one who's acting paranoid, the one who's blocking any and every attempt at peace from wirral_bagpuss. She is the one who has lashed out at people not involved in the conflict (holmes221b in particular). She may be a great writer of fiction, but she's currently not acting like a great example of humanity. Though when I think about how violent the human race is, perhaps nunewesen really is a great example of humanity...

And on that note, I will wrap up this post with some additional thoughts on this subject.
*rjdoll2 posted this concerning what a friend is. It is truly a good post, though the motivation behind its posting is mostly certainly not a purely good one.
*rebbecawilde once stated that "When one talks of someone, they normally talk by the person's first given name, not their username. To use the username consistently is proof of a hatefilled motive." She is wrong. I usually call med_cat by her username, and I certainly don't hate her. I call lots of folks by their usernames, and I certainly don't hate them either. And I do it consistently as well. In this post in particular, I'm referring to everyone by their usernames because I don't want to be wrongly perceived as favoring one side more than the other, because in this post, I am not playing favorites. She also mentions that wirral_bagpuss is seeking vengeance, and I have to say that it is a strange sort of vengeance, to want to heal the rift caused by this conflict and to move on into the future together, and remain friends.

And finally, if you have any complaints concerning this post, please keep in mind that I have a right to speak my mind, as long as it doesn't infringe on the rights of others, and that I have taken GREAT care to not infringe on anyone's right to free speech except my own.

getting involved, friendship
