So I finally got around to playing that "Loved" game. It was...interesting.
Having said that, I think I'm going to write up something for
only_a_mask profile.
Also, there is fic under the cut.

In those days, the mountain floated somewhere distant in the white sky, as a castle rising momentously above the clouds - cold, impassive. The giftbearers vanished into the ice fog and, presumably, emerged on the other side with it hanging on their fur.
They returned with empty paws and silence, refusing to divulge the secrets of that faraway mountain. And from then on, whenever the beat of wings passed far overhead, their silence fell deeper around them, and they grew solemn with a moment of rememberance.
So it would be; so it would have been, into forever.

She was perfect, they thought as they stood on sore paws and breathed thin air; perfect as an unmarked snowfall was perfect, untouched in some fundamental way by all the many tragic truths of the world. It was easy to forget one's purpose in that moment, staring into eyes that reflected back a glimpse of always, welcomed out of the blizzard by a voice that spoke volumes beyond a single heart's knowing.
Can you speak for me? she would coax, and they were helpless to do anything but comply.
They would repeat her curious words, and she would continue on, and they were enthralled. She would turn away, and their hearts would break, and they would do all they could to forget.
So it would be; so it would have been, into forever.

His eyes contained depths, contained an emptiness that asked to be filled.
I am, he repeated, and truly listened.
Do you understand~? Do you know what you are saying~?
The drop of silence was perfect, like a single flawless crystal in a snowstorm of millions.
...No. I don't think I do.
The light was fading from her like the melting-away of a sunrise, and she was falling; falling to the ground, where the ice breath of the wind painted true patterns that built and faded and were flawed but were real in a way that the sky could never dream of.
Then~ come, follow me, and let's find out~!

So it will be; there is no such thing as forever.
